I appreciate your input, but I think I'll go with the (paid) analyst's thoughts on this one.

The "paid analyst" who's math is totally wrong? Be my guest. Nothing illegal about wilful ignorance.

First line of the article sited in the OP:

"PlayStation 4 will finish this holiday season with a 20 million lead over its lead rival, the Xbox One, according to analysts at DFC Intelligence."

EDIT:  Nevermind, you edited the post to exclude the part about the 'analyst' being an editor for PSU.com

Nope, EA and Ubisoft's estimates had combined PS4 + XBO sales to be 55 million units by the end of 2015. Sony revealed that the PS4 sold about 36 million units by that time. Therefore, the XBO sold approximately 19 million units, making the gap 17 million. If the gap is 20 million, then the gap increased by 3 million. The gap is not closing.

However, it is likely that the gap is larger than 20 million and closer to 25 million. Refer to this post of mine earlier in the thread.

I appreciate your input as well, but until your information is published on a repuatable website as DFC's was, I think I'll go with what the professionals have to say.

How do you know DFC is reputable? I never even heard of it. And this is also an Appeal to Authority fallacy. EA and Ubisoft also have access to numbers from NPD, GFK, and so forth. What makes them less credible than DFC, a group I never heard of?

Refute my points rather than resorting to fallacies.

imagine what would have...if the ps4 had a 50 dollar price drop.

If that is correct, you're saying the Xbox One has sold over 30 million units as of December 9, 2016. Yes?

I'm saying I'll take thought's of a (paid) analyst over those of the people in a forum that is unarguably very biased towards Sony.

It's nothing personal here, who cares what I think?

I am a network admin at a surgery center, not a video game sales analyst.

This is the second time you resorted to the Appeal to Authority fallacy and then, you followed it up with an ad hominem. If you read CGI's post, then you should realize that there are a handful of inconsistencies and the numbers don't add up. You need to refute our points rather than resorting to logical fallacies, especially when I never heard of DFC and you haven't been able to prove its credibility.

So as a network admin, you must know that expressing something over the interwebz that no one cares about is a waste of bandwidth.

* Warning * - do not make things personal. Everyone has debated points with you and you are encouraged to do the same.

Next - the "paid analyst" you continue to prop contradicts what others, who have the data, have said. More importantly, my post had more to it than that. Refute thepoints presented to you:

  • Is the X1 currently ahead of 30 million?
  • When did it cross it?
  • Has the X1 outsold the PS4 worldwide? If so, when and by how much?

No one here knows the answers to those questions. But one must assume a company that analyzes video game console sales may be privy to some information that we here are not.

If the source is irrefutable, I agree. But, so far, I've not heard of DFC and there's nothing presented to me showing what knowledge they have over companies like EA or Ubisoft. As far as I'm concerned, this "source" is just as "guesswork worthy" as the rest of us. What we can deduce? Their current math is incorrect, like VGC's data.

So back to my original point, without the answers to those questions, you shouldn't state things as fact.

You're right and I've changed my mind.

This DFC Intelligence seems to be not only unheard of, but also very wrong with their numbers.

There is no way Microsoft has sold 30 million Xbox Ones and Sony has already stated that they passed the 50m mark a few days ago.

I'd put the 'trouncing' upwards of 25-30 million by the end of the year.

I'm sorry for my ignorance and next time I will do my research before sharing my thoughts.

Oooo! What a twist ending!

That wouldn't surprise me in the least, because it's kind of already doing that.
