Forums - Sales Discussion - PS4 has beaten the SNES in Sales (NES next target)

I'm not sure we can fairly compare them going forward given even this new Pro is considered a "PS4". Releasing more powerful models as the years go on is a departure from how consoles once worked, and it seems like it will artificially inflate totals.

That doesn't apply here obviously, but I'm just looking down the road; are we basing our counts purely on name and not the hardware itself? For instance, will the Scorpio count towards the Xbox1 given it is mostly to the xbox1 what the pro is to the PS4?

Personally think they should be counted separately.

PS4 Pro is a PS4, not a new console with its own exclusives. Why would it "artificially inflate" totals, Sony just announced most buyers of the Pro are new owners. Besides the format has been invented for a few years now with the New 3DS.

No need to do mental gymnastics bruh.

Will you include the xbox Scorpio with the xbox1?

So what? The original PlayStation did it first. With how big the industry is now it's not that hard to pass 49 million units.

I don't see what relevance "doing it first" has to anything. Also, we have two machines that are nowhere near 49 million. Thus, just because one console has passed it doesn't mean it's par for course.

3 of the last Ninty home consoles wasnt able to come close and one xbox one hasnt and Xbon still isnt close

I think people just buy less titles for their portables versus their home consoles. At least i do.

I suspect it's because handhelds are easier to "forget" about than the console linked straight to your TV.

Still, I've more games for the 3ds than I do for the Wii U and a lot more than my PS4. There's zero overlap between 3ds games and PC games, though, so that probably influences my count.

I honestly think you might be in the minority just going by the numbers

Well clearly I am, I'm not denying that lol

Like I said though, I generally prefer games on the PC when they're available, and this gen more than any previous one they have been. In that context no platform has had more exclusives than the 3ds (at least in my experience).

Congrats PS4.

When PlayStation succeeds it sells 100+ million.  Not surprised.

Great job PS4!!! The day will come when we will make the same thread just with Wii instead of SNES!!!

It's NES next.  Then 3DS,  psp,  360, PS3, Wii,  ps1. I think it will be the third best selling console ever behind the ps2 and DS.

I don't lump handhelds and consoles together, so I think it'll end up behind PS2, PS1 and Wii for forth place. I don't see it getting 100 million in sales.
