Could have technically been released in its original December release date

 

That means the game has finished development and is ready for production.  

According to Toyama, the team was able to brush up the game even more thanks to the delay and, along with the special animation, it’s finished up really well.

If they are making discs now then there's going to be a Day One Patch.

 

Well it was supposed to come out in december, but they delayed it because of Final Fantasy and the last guardian got pushed close to GR2 release date. They could have easily hit their december release date. There probably isnt much to optimize anymore.

Yeah probably delayed because of FFXV and TLG, games usually go gold ~4-6 weeks before disc release.

Because release windows are so overcrowded, it is better to reschedule the release date after a peak season AND give DLC for free.
