The problem is it's just so low effort. On both the Wii U and the Wii, you can tell Capcom didn't invest the necessary resources to make Monster Hunter 3 a truly great console game. Which is sad, the game has so much untapped western appeal potential because the only versions that get real love are handheld versions. Even when consoles get a version, they never take advantage of he hardware. I really hope MH comes to the Switch with real effort, but I'm not holding my breath to see it before late 2018 at the earliest. |
I didn't feel like Tri on Wii was low effort at all. On Wii U yes, that version was just a 3DS game in HD, but the Wii game really pushed the system with detailed environments and lifelike monsters. Heck, I'd go so far as to call it one of the best looking games on Wii.
I definitely agree however that they should make a MH game from the ground up for Switch and put real effort into it.

Sure, it didn't get the third party games like GTAIV and V, Red Dead, a few CoDs, Assassin's Creed, Borderlands, Dark Souls, etc. and there were a lot of shovel ware for the Wii (though it can be said for any console, especially those that sold really well). Nevertheless, it had a plethora of solid to great games. Zack and Wiki, Trauma Center, RE4 Wii Edition, Wii Sports/Resort, Wii Fit, Punch Out! Wii, Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, Sin and Punishment Star Successor, Excite Truck, Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, Skyward Sword, Prime Trilogy, the Mario Galaxy games, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Return to Dreamland, No More Heroes (1 and 2), Red Steel 2, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, DKC Returns, Xenoblade Chronicles, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Metroid Other M (yes, I'll include it Metroid fans despite its flaws), The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, Boom Blox, Project Zero 2 Wii Edition and 4 (for those who got it from Japan), Little King's Story, The Conduit, Sonic Colors, Epic Mickey, House of the Dead Overkill, Monster Hunter Tri, Rhythm Heaven Fever, etc. Even some of the EA games were pretty good using the Wiimote. |
Definitely an underrated system, it got heaps of awesome games that were overlooked just cos they weren't HD blockbusters.
