540p on a TV is unacceptable, the dock better be able to bump that to 720p at least. 540p is OK for portable play.

Man, if it can't even do 720p 30fps then that will be really disappointing.  It's one of the reasons why I was really hoping eurogamer was wrong about the NS being a hybrid because it would almost certainly doom it to being another Nintendo device that only plays Nintendo games.

I think you're on the right track.  I think that since the Switch is clearly not going to compete with Xbox One/ PS4 in sheer horsepower, even though it's four years newer, perhaps Nintendo's method to get it to run these higher-end games on such modest specs is to keep native resolution capped at 540, and simply upscale to 720 in mobile mode, and 720 or 1080 in dock mode?  I don't really know.  But it certainly makes sense.

I think first and foremost, the major trade-off we have to come to accept about Switch, and what Nintendo had to do in order to make this "console" a reality, is to sacrifice horsepower in order to achieve affordable cost, and reasonable battery life.

In two years, when manufacturing costs come down, assuming Switch is successful (It most definitely will be :)), Nintendo is likely already planning on refreshing the model, as they've done for over a decade, with DS, then 3DS, and simply release a slightly improved version of the current system, with the same base-line specs, but better ancillary capabilities... better battery, improved screen brightness, quieter fan-cooling, lower power consumption, etc.

You know what I mean? Like, any time you buy the launch model of anything, whether it be a car, game system, whatever, it's always going to be more expensive and less streamlined than the newer versions.  Heavens, just look at Xbox One S vs OG Xbox One.  Difference is night and day.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

You guys are aren't actually hoping for many multiplatform games are you? Similar to the Wii, I think NX will be well suited to select titles, but otherwise someone who's waited 5 years for Mass Effect Andromeda or Red Dead 2, is not going to play the bastardised version built for a souped up tablet. I love the NX concept but it by default it's going to be notably weak compared to dedicated home consoles.

I'm happy with 540p for remote play. I'm going to wait until more info comes out about the specs. I don't remember hearing about this guy, ever.

Hopefully the actual specs are better.

This could be why Red Dead is skipping the Switch (boy, how I dislike that name.) My guess, if this is true, is we'll see a repeat of the Wii U's 3rd party support. So, decent at launch, with it dying off when companies didn't think it was worth it to release scaled down ports.

Unless I'm reading this wrong the 32GB storage is a dead give-away that this is fake, or Nintendo is more stupid than I possibly could have thought. 32GB is absolutely nothing these days for a home console, with that you'll be lucky if you can install a handful of patches. If this is true you can throw any 3rd party AAA support out of the window.

I like the concept. Will be very successful on Japan where mobile is king. I just hope is Pascal not Maxwell. Also, hope it packs more storage size.

I really hope the dock has a m.2 slot, upgradable by the user.

If the dock does not supplement processing power, then the portable form factor will limit it to being a similar kind of mild step above Wii U as Wii was to Gamecube.

The technology to achieve PS4/Xbox One level power in a portable case just isn't there yet.

That's what I was wondering, if it's really possible to achieve that nowadays (unless Nvidia did some wizardry), and what would be the price. I think that anything which costs more than 300€ would be a commercial suicide. So I'm expecting Nintendo to do their own thing, the console will be underpowered, but cheap and with an attractive and highly marketable concept. That will probably mean no AAA third party support. And I still don't think it's necessary to the console's sucess tbh. I think competing with MS/Sony is quite absurd. That train just left time ago.

Still, if we combine the support the 3DS had regarding 3rd pary games , plus Nintendo exclusives, would make a pretty awesome system. With that saying, it wouldn't hurt anyone to try to get ports of popular games. I still think it's not that relevant in the console's sucess since Nintendo is crearly going on a different way.

I think Switch lives or dies on its price point and software. If it's $250 USD or less with killer software, it could do rather well.

If it's $300 or over and has a Wii-U-esque library, it hasn't got a snowball's chance in hell.

They need to play to their strengths; make it cheap and accessible, not expensive and niche.
