Coke-Cola.

Hah I was mostly talking about tech...  I suppose there's probably a few non-tech companies that have caught on there.

Is KFC as huge in Japan as it is in China? Never been to Japan but while in Beijing I was chocked to find a three story KFC in the dead center of town lol

So.  "We" can make all the exceptions we want to "prove" our point.  And I'm not referring to you in particular.  I'm just making a general statement.  And about KFC if it serves the Chinese government, they will accept it.

Lol, selling 1 Million+ in a country isn't good enought ? And, did you know that Japan is by far the second biggest market for consoles even with a drop every year ? It would still take some years for Germany to surpass it.  Germany already is nearly 80% Playstation. The actual Japan is, for home console) 49.% Playstation 50.9% Nintendo and 0.1% Xbox.

Microsoft don't has any other "bigger market" than Japan to  go, They don't sell well on Europe. The biggest markets after the China, that is mainly PC, are USA  Japan, Korea, Germany, UK, France,  Spain, Canada and Italy. Only 1 north American country, and some asian countries, but majority from the Europe. Microsoft don't try to appeal for that market, Playstation always did. This is the reason why there is such difference  of market share.

it is?

Really?  By far the 2nd biggest?

Current Gen:

Japan console sales so far: approx 6.2m

UK console sales so far: approx 6.7m

I was using Newzoo, but I also find another sources

Japan did over 2.8-3.2 Billions of US $ according to Famitsu (3.9 Billions with Console + PC according to Newzoo). Uk did 904 Millions of euros with software and 690 Millions of Euros with hardware, 140 Millions with PC Hardware for gaming  and 130 Millions with used items(I don't know what it is), 360 Millions with acessories and 1.225 Billions with PC and Console digital, this is what makes the things hard.

So, both have pretty much the same revenue for consoles.

It must be hard for XB1 owners in Japan to find enough local online players lol

They actually play with us. At least for Halo as far as I know...

I had the impression Japan had more devs than the UK...

And for anyone wondering the Wii U launched 15 months ahead of the ps4 and it's getting passed out this month.

The ps4 is also matching the ps3 sales launch aligned. In a market where the xbox 1 and Wii U collapsed on it's predecessors the ps4 is doing remarkably well!

Not really.

The xbox One is a disaster in Japan, the WiiU is poor and the PS4 is not good.  The PS3 was bad for a playstation console so the PS4 "matching" that is not performing "remarkably well".

I'd add that the PS3 had real competition there, so the PS4 barely matching the PS3 sales in the absence of real competition is bad.

Youtube is the most visited site even with their  "NicoNico". The thing with consoles is that Microsoft did not released any game with Japanese appeal and  is unable to make companies release japanese games for the Xbox One.

Exactly. PS4 doesn't offer much different than a PS3 when you think about it, either.

People claiming sales of any console won't exceed the PS2's generation are actually missing a big point. If they keep doing what the previous gens did, ala XB1 and PS4, you'd be right. You're going to need something like a Wii to reignite passion in home consoles. PS4, sadly, falls way short of that.

UK also has a lot of devs, the same is true for France and Germany. Microsoft needs to get Market share on Europe. They already have on UK, but they lack on other European countries and they don't exist on Japan.

According to Wikipedia, Japan has over 365 pages of video game developers, while UK has 297.

1 Week vs 3 Years.

As a business man, if you were in charge of XBox what will you do?

Will it look too bad to simply stop shipping to Japan?

We realistically, they don't have to ship to Japan now. Keeping 100 units stocked for the whole country can't be hard.   They still may have launch stock truthfully.

Apple is just about the only western company I know of that sells well in Japan... It's always been part of the Japanese culture to reject foreign companies and products to a greater degree than most countries do.

Basically, give them a decent home-made alternative and you can kiss foreign sales goodbye.

A pack of lies.

https://www.myus.com/blog/japanese-buying-from-usa/

Just because they don't want the Xbox - a system that doesn't even support most Japanese games doesn't mean they don't buy american.

Blame the people instead of the product...its really old isn't it?
