Sony Shadow Concept Smartphone Features Two Stacked Displays

August 25, 2016 - Written By Kristijan Lucic

Sony is one of the largest tech companies in the world, this is a company behind the immensely successful PlayStation consoles, while they’re involved in many other segments of the tech world as well. Sony’s TVs are also quite successful, as are their camera sensors which are being used not only in digital cameras, but also by tons of smartphones all over the world. That being said, Sony’s mobile branch isn’t doing all that well, the company hasn’t exactly been selling tons of smartphone in recent years, and that’s definitely hurting their profits. In any case, Sony is expected to introduce yet another flagship before the end of this year, at least if they’re going to stick to their release cycle, and while we’re waiting to hear more about that, let’s check out a new concept that surfaced recently, read on.

From time to time, we get to see really interesting smartphone concepts, and today’s Sony Shadow smartphone concept is quite unique. This concept was designed by Hege, as were many other concepts we’ve shared with you in the last couple of years. In any case, this smartphone actually sports two displays, one on top of the other. Now, the displays the designer envisioned for this smartphone are actually Royole’s displays which do exist. These two displays are only 0.01mm thick each, which makes it quite possible to stack them on top of the other. Now, the Sony Shadow can actually use both of those displays at the same time, the upper displays can be opened and lifted to a 45-degree angle in order to give you a more comfortable view, while the entire lower display can be used as a keyboard, joystick, etc.

The article lost credibility when it stated Sony is one of the largest tech companies in the world. It should say it was. Also, why do they keep trying to break into the phone business? Even MS quit that and they were doing way better then Sony selling phones.

The DS of smartphones?

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Looks like the NX /s

I think this one will always stay a concept

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

If they could make a phone like this but with buttons that raised kind of like braille I could see complex games (like the ones shown) being possible, or at the very least, playable

I could see a similar design working for a dedicated handheld. Just replace the second screen for physical buttons and make it a little thicker overall and and would be plenty workable.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Sounds so cool and edgy. Like a hedgehog that lost his memories.

NNID: Zephyr25 / PSN: Zephyr--25 / Switch: SW-4450-3680-7334

If they advertise that phone without showing the PS buttons on the second screen they may stand a chance with this, but I think they'll be making a mistake if they advertise it WITH those PS button. Just advertise it with some popular aps in the second screen and let people find out it can be configured to play PS games.

It would be great for 3DS games too and we all know Nitendo are dabbling in phones now. This could be a smart move by Sony.

The PS5 Exists.
