Forums - Sony Discussion - Months later, what are your thoughts on Uncharted 4

I think I go through phases. I've been hooked on Resident Evil Zero and I wasn't even crazy about it on Gamecube. The only reason I bought it on ps4 was because of the costumes. Maybe a year from now, I'll love it again.

I watched U2 on Twitch and it looked as fun as ever. I don't know. Lots of conflicting thoughts right now.

Trust me it's a whole different story when you actually play it now.. i made a mistake playing the whole trilogy again after i finished A Thiefs end .. in short Uc2 is totall crap compared to UC4 everything is outdated the animations ohh god!! jumping, rolling and climbing looks like shit and it's slowwwww the meele combat is so slugish and boring worst gun sounds in the franchise worst and most ridiculous boss fight in the franchise, you kill millions of same looking soldiers, dumb AI that gets in your way(im talking about you Tenzin you piece of shit!)the humor is childish and not fun anymore and overall the whole game feels so small and restricted compared to 4.

I think it is superior to the other games. I loved UC2 more for the consecutive playthroughs rather than my first rodeo, just because it was so much fun to play and perfectly paced.

However, I do find playing through this one more difficult. There are far too many walk-and-look-at-stuff moments. With this direction, it made me wish they had just made another TLOU game, as the atmosphere and setting was much more tense.

I do think they added just enough to the platforming and traversing to make it not offensively simple and pointless. The action set pieces were the best of the series and of any game I've played, and the regular encounters were much more tense than the other games. Taking guys out by stealth and being strategic with cover was necessary due to the number of enemies and scale of the environment.

I think they really improved the presentation, as the cutscenes and characters feel closer to movie-quality. As a whole, the package and pacing seems to work excellent as a movie, but as a game, I wish there was more action.

Still one of the best games of the year, and to me it's probably the Majora to Uncharted 2's Ocarina. That said it's not my GotY, I've had a huge surprise take that title so far...

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

Great game. I'm pretty satisfied with what ND did.

I plated all the Uncharteds except 4 (even the Vita one). I might not even plat 4, i really dont feel like doing a speed run

You can do the speed run with only playing 1 chapter or something simple like that, it may have been patched though, you'd have to check.

oh its been patched.

Honestly, I consider it my least favourite of the 4. Great game, don't get me wrong, but the parts I have the most fun in in Uncharted games are the shootouts, and I just didn't find there to be enough of them, and not enough truly memorable ones, compared to the other games. It also has a really slow start, which 3 suffered from too.

Beautiful but shallow

only played the SP once unlike the other games to get the platinum i played UC1 over 5 times played 2 3 times and played 3 3 times thats including a play through of the remaster so i have more memories with those games also just finished tlou for the 5th time on ps4 i now have 100% platinum for it on both consoles now thats a GOTG

was able to platinum the game with only one play through b/c it lets you start at the highest difficulty while i was playing it i said to my self i want to replay this again and take my time to enjoy it but i havent yet

idk maybe b/c knowing its the last UC with drake or the formula got old like you it just didnt click

i played a little bit of its MP aswell and boy has that changed since the UC2 days nothing made me want to go back to it id rather play Blops 3 i really liked the simplicity of UC2 MP

I share those criticisms. Uncharted is best when it focuses on improvisational gunplay, and there was very little of it until the last third of the game, which, to me, was the most enjoyable part. The slow start and pacing issues hurt too.

It's very much like the rest of the series: technically brilliant and gorgeous to look at but torn in two competing directions. Part of it wants to be a cinematic roller coaster and part of it wants to be cover-based shooter. When those things overlap well, as they did in Uncharted 2, the results are spectacular. When cinematic pretensions spill over and affect negatively gameplay, as they did in Uncharted 3, the overall experience suffers.

Uncharted 4, for me, is the most Uncharted-iest of all the Uncharted games. It's beauty and technical achievement is staggering, and its tactical shootouts are thrilling. But all too often it transforms into something you watch instead of something you play, and that's not what I want in a video game. So, overall, Uncharted 4 is an excellent game that's held back from greatness by its deep focus on cinematic storytelling.

Well you concluded in the other thread that we have very different tastes, but I totally agree with your overall view on the series, and that is the reason I think Uncharted is good but overrated, as the pacing sometimes is just too slow and limits your freedom in how you do stuff to focus on the story, and I think that the story itself isn't that great, its just typical Hollywood action romp.

I do think 3 is better overall than 2, but it started out a lot slower. Uncharted is at its best when you are in elaborate arenas and shooting enemies which has some tactical depth to it.

I look back at my tweets and posts from when I was playing it. Lots of "best game ever" comments. I'll reevaluate the Uncharted 4 on my next day off.
