Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Neo presentation leaked

I just hope that devs don't go for 4K on it. It would be much better to get 1080p@60fps with the equivalent to Ultra settings.

I'm not getting it either way, but I think that would be better anyways,

I have no reasons to believe that this is a fake internal presentation ...

Even if it's fake nothing in this seems untrue. Which makes me believe that it could be real. I mean why fake something that doesn't have some clickbaity treats in it? Seems like a lot of work for nothing.

viv didn't immediately debnk this?  Now I HAVE to check it out.

I hope that's fake. If not, Scorpio will annihilate the PS4 Neo.

Yeah, no chance of that happening. But if this is true, then it confirms that OsirisBlack was full of nonsense. So much for GAF-leak.

There is only a minor problem with this "leak":
AMD never launched engineering Jaguar cores at 14/16nm.
There is no die-shrinking possible 28->14nm, this essentially requires a complete redesign (costing between $100M to $150M, depending on who you ask). Why would anyone want to (=Sony,MS) redesign a cpu that was outdated several years ago, when better stuff (Zen lite amongst it) was already in the works?

You obviously have a very minimal understanding of how fabrication works.

All that will require AMD to have jaguar at 14nm (AMD has a thing for Global Foundries at the moment, 16nm likely is not going to happen) is for a respin of the die.
AMD has actually done this multiple times in the past where they have taken a GPU/CPU and shrunk it down.

Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo also do this all the time with their consoles, they don't throw away their old CPU's when they do a die shrink, they keep the same old CPU core, do a respin and have it at a smaller node.

Take the Xbox 360 for instance. The CPU started out at 90nm, then it got shrunk down to 65nm, it's still the same CPU.
Then at 45nm, Microsoft combined the CPU and GPU into a single chip. (This required more than just a respin.)
Sony did the same with the PS3.

So no. History has proven your statement incorrect.

AMD also has special deals with Global Foundries. Do you have a legitimate source information on the costings?

In terms of specs yes, neo will be a lot cheaper, release sooner and sell many more units if this leak is accurate however.

As far as I am aware Microsoft and Sony have not released pricing information, so that is a bold statement to make.
One would assume that Microsoft would want to be competitive on price, launching later might allow them that opportunity.

Umm, let's see... Binary compatability with existing CPU optimizations?  Leading to reduced cross-development costs?
Yes, you obviously give up the performance gains from a new CPU architecture, but there are larger potential concerns than that.
And this is exactly what was reported in Eurogamer/ other press reportage on PS4NEO up to date.

Not to say that they shouldn't/can't aim higher for that, and that IMHO, CPU architecture update is acceptable for devs to swallow.
NVM that if MS also adopts Zen with Scorpio, Sony also doing so won't actually result in more CPU arch optimizations...
In fact, with Scorpio set to adopt same memory arch as PS4 (broadly), there will be a reduction in system arch models to begin with.
In the short term that doesn't help with existing XBone/PS4.0 base, but moving forward the arch differences would just be very minor.

But re-engineering Jaguar for 14nm FinFET would make sense if they prioritized CPU optimization binary compatability.  Just saying.

You wouldn't be breaking compatability by using a more modern CPU like Puma/Puma+.
Besides, everything is abstracted anyway.

if this is fake - props to whoever made it, you know your stuff
if this is true, which i believe it is, looks like Neo is just a 4k wannabe console, it will focus on having a resolution little lower than 4k and upscaling it, looks like i don't need to buy a Neo because i don't have a 4k TV, this is a mistake IMO, Sony should've waited till 2020 and come with a PS5 that is a massive leap and have standard 4k/60fps, best VR etc.

Neither consoles (Neo or Scorpio) will be doing 4k and retain a degree of expected level of image quality.

Probably real, given it sounds exactly like what Giant Bomb and Digital Foundry wrote. It's also old, and contains precisely no new information. Did everyone think Giant Bomb and DF just made up their sources or something?

Plenty of sources pegged the PS4 as having 4GB of RAM prior to Feb 20, 2013. Nothing is official until it is official.

Exactly!

With that said, Sony did jump on the higher density GDDR5 chips which came available before the PS4 launch, so the rumors were probably credible right up untill that point, on the flip side they likely knew those chips would be available before most people due to their industry connections.

Yeah 1 year later. PS5 could come out as soon as in 2019

2018 for me, 5 years is enough.

PS4 has sold over 40 million units and it doesnt seem to slow down, no reason to jump ship. That would be utter stupid.

That a 4.2TFlop machine will cost less than a 6Tflops machine? Nah that's not a bold statement.

To think people actually take the time to make a fake "leak". I'll never understand what people get out of that. I love how it says "confidential" on it. Next time they should put "will self destruct in 15 seconds..."

that could mean nothing. I am a military officer. If something is classified it is plastered all over the place. Opening slide gives overall classification, then each page/slide is labeled based on the classification of content on that page. (which is why anyone who has worked with classified documents is so flabergasted with the whole Clintin email scandal... we would be fired at minimum, jail possible).

Corporate secrets are very valuable and I would not be suprised if companies had their own marking system. These documents would have only been shown to people in the company authorized to see this level of information.

psn- tokila

add me, the more the merrier.

Looks fake imo.

Smart move on Sony's part. It'll sell regardless of whatever is under the hood. It could be 2 hamsters on a wheel chasing a potato on a string. Sony will advertise it like its the second coming and it'll sell millions. Even if it doesn't, they already got 40 million people invested in the Sony ecosystem. They're not gonna change brands just because Scorpio destroys Neo in power.
