Forums - General Discussion - Study suggests Cannabis traded 10, 000 years ago. Evidence for spike in consciousness and civilisation?

Having been one of the biggest pot heads on the face of the earth back in the day I can safely assure you that it doesn't contribute to a "spike" in anything after awhile other than eating too much and wasting time. Maybe sex as well... but that's about it.

Treated OCD is better, there is no cure. Doesn't work for everyone though, can't get it medicinally either which sucks.

Well I do believe it's a great tool that has very interesting medical uses, be it with a doctor or self-treatment.

But a spike in consciousness... you'd have more success asking some fun guy about that I suppose.

Coming from an severe OCD (folding creases out of curtains at one point so I could sleep) I can tell you there is a cure. Two in fact. One is  Cannabis used over a long period of time, daily, always high. Your mind resets itself after a year or two....maybe three and as long as you don't actively go about your old routines/obsessions you'll have have an acceptable ammount of OCD on a normal level, everyone has it to some degree. Then there is 5HTP which after a few weeks of tickering with the dosage to get it right you can train your mind much more easily than you would be able to normally after months to years. The cannabis worked for me, the 5HTP worked for a family member of mine, even though he still has to keep an eye on things at times and does slip sometimes but never severely. He also had to give up video games though. :(

I have had OCD for years, what works for you is great, so keep smoking if you like. That doesn't make it a cure, the condition can be treated with long term strategies for the majority. It also depends on what categorisation you fall under as well, my experience with medication and CBT isn't great and doesn't work for me. Self therapy and being strong willed is my best bet and am a lot better now using exposure and response.

Thoughts? Cannabis was used as a medicine along with like probably dozens or hundreds of other herbs available at the time.

Edit: As far as the idea the cannabis somehow moved civilisation along? No.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

There is so much mis-information about cannabis.

Lots of people actively spread facebook memes like "Cannabis cures cancer" etc'. Know one bloke who has forgone all potential life-saving cancer treatment and stuck to treating it with Cannabis.
I don't see him living another year.

Smoking it actually causes cancer. Hence the irony.

It helped me with insomnia, only thing that worked getting my mind into a normal day/night cycle and not go mad from finally falling asleep an hour before the alarm goes off every day. Yet other than preventing fighting I doubt it spiked any rise in intelligence. Consciousness maybe, it also made me a lot more aware of how the brain works behind the curtain.
I don't use it anymore, I'm sleeping fine now and it interferes with playing games. It's still fun though, certainly makes most tv and movies a lot more exciting.

That's just silly... the rise would be due to higher populations, settled living and trade routes. Civilization rose in areas untouched by marijuana just fine.

What I'm getting from the article is that trading kickstarted civilisation. And cannabis was one of the things they traded, along with a multitude of other products. Probably plenty of food. If people aren't starving, they have more time to do productive things.

Correlation does not imply causation.
