Didn't Sony say Neo wouldn't be at E3 like the week before? That story about them pulling out at the last second doesn't add up.

Yeah they did. So there's no way Neo was yanked from the conference when they said beforehand that it wouldn't appear.

In any case, the rest of this is well written and pretty much dead on. Looking forward to what the Neo turns out to be

Problem with the MS showing was that they had nothing to show except words.

We can only hope Sony does a better job with Neo age we can put these rumbles behind us.

Also that they destroyed all need for their device. Everything it can do can also be done (better) on PC, whereas PS4/Neo has exclusives and PlayStation Vue.

I hope that Sony decides to launch the Neo this fall. That would be amazing for both Sony and me.

Sony would get a one year headstart over Micrsoft with Neo before Scorpion, and this advantage has given so successful results in the past, time to establish a product in the market and in minds of people. And sometimes early 2018, after Scorpion during the important holidays has had its big chance to charm consumers, we will all find out that Playstation massively outsold Xbox, despite having slightly weaker hardware.

For me a fall Neo release would be absolutely amazing because I can't wait to get a PS4 to play the new God of War. But that PS4 must be the NEO, since I want the machine that runs VR well, and also improves other games. Btw, I wonder what's the latest rumor of that, if they allow developers to put all kinds of graphical improvements on the Neo version of a game or if it's just higher resolution. Yeah, I agree with the article, lots of things are unclear, the message is muddled.

Imagine God of War with even greater graphics than what we saw in the video. UNREEEEEEAAAALL

I simply don't get what is so complicated about this.

Games you have and games u will have will still work on your console that you have to the best of your consoles ability. The Neo/Scorpio doesn't mean anyone "has" to upgrade or that those that bought 3yrs/2yrs/3 months ago were scammed.

In 2013,the best PS4/XB1 you could buy cost $399. In 2015 it cost $350 and this year they would cost $300. Does that mean the people rhat bought at $399 were scammed?

Next year, there will be a newer premium version of the same consoles coming in at a price higher than the base consoles. You still play the exact same games and pay the same money for them, just that on the more expensive console it looks better. What is so hard to understand about this.

I bought a surface book last year that cost well over a lot of money. Should i get pissed this year when a new surface book is released that is in every way better than mine?

I just don't get it.

And this talk about the head starts.... has anyone stopped to think that the Neo is still a PS4? its not like when a game sells 5M copoes the devs will be able to tell if most of its buyers were using a neo/scorpio or base consoles. if the PS4 sells 20M a year, they aren't gonna say this much were neo and this much were base. It would just be called PS4. And the same applies to the XB1. By the time the scorpio is released, its not competimg with the 1-10M neos out there depending on when that comes; its competing with the PS4. All maybe 70M of them. And its not competing as a "scorpio" its competing as an XBOX.

Yep.  And the rumors going around are that Red Dead 3 was what was pulled.  Maybe 2K didn't have a stable demo ready, yet?

@ OP

This article forgets one big point going against MS.  They don't have any exclusives on the Xbox anymore.  All games will also be available for PC, almost completely negating the need for the Scorpio.  And I also expect Sony to boost the clock up to get ~5.5 Tflops out of their GPU.  Sure, 6Tflops is still better (if MS isn't just rounding up), but if Sony actually has a year head start, that difference won't mean much.  Of course, the biggest thing to consider is that neither updated console will have exclusives soley for it, they only play the games their OG versions play, just better.  These updated consoles will not change the direction of this gen.  The PS4 won, and it will continue to win.

As for the NX, if it truly is underpowered compared to the OG PS4, I don't see it having a pray's chance at catching on.  3rd parties will hardly support it and gamers won't want inferior versions of games that are better on consoles they already own.  And while having a controller that doubles as a handheld is interesting, it's not enough to carry a system.  If the NX fails to deliver, I can truly see Nintendo either shifting to mobile gaming or going 3rd party or both.

I think thats the problem with nintendo and even more so their die hard fans.

The fans seem to not understand that a console cannot be successful without the big AAA third party games and you can't blame them when nintendo themselves feel they can do without them too. The only way NX without thrid parties becomes a thing is if nintendo can pull off another Wii like phenomenon. But to come in and be even less poeerdul than the OG XB1 and with no third party games? All the zelda in the world won't save them. Unless they do another Wii loke thing.

But then again, nintendo fans will buy the NX for zelda, then more will be for the bew mario, and then the new mario kart....etc. Onky problem is, that as the N64, Gamecube and the WiiU has shown, that never seems to amount to a user base of more than 20-30M over the course of a generation.

I think the NX is gonna succeed tho, just not in how we all think it would. I think its actually gonna be a mobile console first and a home console second. When plugged into a wall and ur TV it would be upclocekd and run games better and will have power more than the WiiU but less than the XB1. When used on battrry it would switch modes. so it would do really well as a mobile console, that just happens to hsve the odd 2/3 home releases each year.
