Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo has a communication problem with it's Fanbase.

Man I have been gone for awhile do to personal reasons and come back to this?

First off when does a video game company that specifically states on its website about the WiiU that it's a family fun console need to submit to the fanbase of 18-24 year old demo or the older gen who won't grow up and look at things logically?

Here some harsh truth for you Nintendo wants to be a family base company and their is room for it. If you can't get off your gaming high horse and start realizing that as you become adults your tastes change doesn't mean you force a Family company to grow up with you. You play Xbox and PlayStation while my demographic should be buying and playing Nintendo consoles with their children and since we have jobs buy another console or PC to have some adult fun.

Nintendo wants to be a family based company get over it

this is all well and good. But do people really want a family fun home console? cause judging by the sales of Wii u i would have to say they dont

you arent making much sense, you're the one who brought up the quality issue

Which is what this whole thread is about.

A Crash Bandicoot remaster now qualifies as what the fans have been asking for for years? Additionally, you left out the examples where Nintendo is moving in the correct direction, like Zelda which seems to have got exclusively a positive response.

Besides, the Nintendo fanbase isn't as homogeneous as other fanbases, so in many cases Nintendo wouldn't be able to do what the fans want because the fans themselves are very divided on what should be done with certain IPs.

Anyway, you could make the same thread for the other console manufacturers if you only focused on the negatives.

Crash is different, Sony does not own the rights, activision does.

however, Nintendo owns metroid and f zero. Nothing is something them from making proper home console releases of those games

The problem with your example is that SONY does not own the rights to Crash Bandicoot, Activision does.  Pretty much everything being complained about Nintendo are franchises they definitely own.

On the other hand, people are definitely fighting over the new direction of God of War.

The problem is does anyone want a 'family console' anymore?

You would think Nintendo would have a near monopoly on the kids market for example, surely most kids under the age of 14 should choose Nintendo, but in reality, it's actually Sony/MS that are still probably no.1 with that audience because as kids get a bit older they tend to want to play the same thing their older brother/cousin/sister is playing.

That concept worked well in the 80s/90s when the majority of the industry was just kids and the pandora's box of violent video games and edgier MTV/marketing for older kids/adults wasn't so much of a thing. But once that genie got out of the bottle, it's never been able to be bottled again and the industry changed forever.

If you showed someone from 1991 Grand Theft Auto they would be in disbelief at the level of violence in the game.

It's been a rough year for Nintendo, while they are still putting out some stellar titles now and then there seems to be a clear problem with Nintendo, Acting on Fan Feedback. Everything that is said seems to fall on deaf ears. Unlike other companies that are more involved with their fanbase then ever Nintendo seems to be doing their own thing, just telling what they're going to do and not paying any attention to what is said in return. For example.

Animal Crossing Amiibo Party!!!! Errr.... No I think everyone wanted a real Animal Crossing game on WiiU.

Paper Mario Sticker Star/Color Splash!!! Errr... Everyone wants a game in the vein of the original or Thousand Year Door.

Mario Party... Everyone hated the Car in 9, so what did Nintendo do for Mario Party 10? Kept the car of course. Not to mention the new 3ds game which has some awful movement gimmick also and Island Tour which is already out where every board is basically a straight line.

Metroid - You wanted a Metroid Prime game?!? You're getting Federation Force ENJOY!

F-zero - You asked for a new F-zero? No you're not getting one on the WiiU because reasons.

It seems pretty clear to me that Nintendo have a big problem with interacting with their fanbase and taking onboard feedback and just in general giving their fanbase what they want. While in the last two years Sony has announced 4 HIGHLY requested projects because of the high demand from fans (Shenmue 3, FFVII, The Last Guardian, Crash Bandicoot.) Nintendo is making Color Splash, Bad Mario Party's, and Metroid Federation Force.

Nintendo Directs are just Nintendo saying what they're going to do, the communication seems one way, as a Nintendo Fan does anyone feel like their voice is really heard when they ask for a certain game or a change?

Basicly all games you mentione are only small projects/spinoof for curent users to fill gap until NX arives, there is nothing strange about that.

If you really want proof about good communication with fans, look at new Zelda, basically they done everything fans wanted.

Are you really trying to attribute Wii U's failure solely on that fact that its has a family-friendly image?

Zelda seems to be the exception to nintendo's commmunication problem with it's fanbase and not proof of anything. Ninty fans' dissatisfaction with nintendo not releasing enough games or main additions to the certain IPs is proof enough of nintendo not listening to it's fanbase.

No, actualy games that OP mentione proves nothing, beacuse basicly all games he mentione are only small projects/spinoof for curent users to fill gap until NX arives, there is nothing strange about that.
