Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony confirms existence of PS4 Neo, not at E3

What makes me nervous about that quote is that it says "all or a very large majority."  So, they're saying there's a chance that not all PS4 games will work on the NEO.  If they can't guarantee to me that I'll be able to play every game, then I don't see why I would want one, as much as I would love the improved performance.  I really don't want to have to leave my standard PS4 and my NEO both hooked up to my TV.

that's not at all what was said.  all games will be on ps4 and ps4 neo.  most games will have some performance advanatage on neo (increased resolution and/or framerate) but not all games will perform better on neo.

No, that's not what he said.  He mentions nothing about the word enhancement for a majority of games, he just mentions support.  Again, this just needs to be clarified by Sony.

Don't get your hopes up in terms of framerate. Non of the rumours suggest it having a significantly improved CPU in order to enable double the FPS.

You assume games are CPU bound and thus pegging jaguar at 100% to begin with.

You're right, its a game by game case but even for a game which isn't CPU bound its an unrealistic expectation to expect double FPS on most of sonys AAA exclusives.

I can easily see Neo costing at the very least 500 dollars after this statement he gave. But its saddening to hear that Neo wont be at the show.

I doubt it; its biggest upgrade is its new gpu which will retail for consumers at $200 (and I'm sure Sony is getting a much cheaper bulk rate on it). With the rest of its enhancements being more subtle, I'd bet good money this will retail for the original $400 of the PS4 (by which point the original will have its price permanently slashed to $300).

Unless a game is running with an unlocked frame rate (which I doubt many are), I don't expect any existing games to see any real improvement with the Neo. The only exceptions would be games that stutter or drop frames because the APU cannot keep up. I also don't expect any developers to go back and modify and recertify their old games to patch in Neo support, unless they really think it will somehow generate more sales.

Also, I still expect to see a PS4 slim announced / released this year. The tech in the PS4 is old by computer standards.

I am wondering how much of the timing has to due with countering the NX release in Q1 2017?

Why the fuck does the Neo even exist anyways?

To support PS VR and 4k.

4K Resolution

The PS4 will be enabled for 4K resolution for videos, the interface, and movies through Hulu or Netflix, but it will not have the capability to display games in 4K.

In the same interview where Yoshida revealed more about the PS4's 3D capabilities he also stated:

"The PS4 supports 4K output, but only for photos and videos; not games. PS4 games do not work on 4K

Quote: "Both PS4 variants will also support its forthcoming virtual reality headset, which will go on sale later this year."

“small but manageable” amount of extra work when creating a game for both" - HA PR!

Now the NX have a "One less problem" to deal with if they keep its March Release Date.

Funny, people complaining about this..... but for Scorpio it is fine! Agendas in check!?

That made me wondering, too. Look at the wording: he said "but". If he said "small and manageable" it would sound pretty easy to do so, but that littlte word "but" arises an implification that porting games isn't that easy. But I could be misinterpreting it and overdramatizing this, as well. Just something that came to my mind.

Why would anyone complain about this when they were dealing with a different architecture with PS3 and 360.... Taking way more effort and knowledge. Cell was notoriously difficult to deal with, yet they did it. Why did nobody complain back then. This is a manufactured complaint spread by the media in an effort to push a more level competition between xbox and PS.

So after all the only reason FOR that thing is more horse power in order to achieve some higher frame rates. And games need to be redone and rereleasd then, right? Slow claps, Sony, slow claps. I wonder how anyone could be willingly pay so much money for something of such insignificance.
