Forums - Nintendo Discussion - [Rumor] Nintendo had a meeting with EA last month: Is this why NX was delayed to 2017?

Hey guys, remember when NintendoLife claimed they had sources that said EA had a meeting with Nintendo to talk about the NX this March? Link: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/02/rumour_ea_and_nintendo_looking_to_rekindle_unprecedented_partnership_on_nx

Let's assume the meeting did happen. Could this be why the NX is releasing on March 2017? Nintendo President Kimishima said NX is releasing next March to get more software titles ready. What if this also meant titles from third parties like EA?

What do you guys think? Does this old rumor have any connection to NX releasing globally on March 2017?

EA just wanted to have a good laugh before they do another Game exclusive to non-nintendo devices.

uhm, it wasnt announced yet so it was never delayed, but it might have contributed to the decision to release the nx in march

This again?

Nintendo would have never said "we'll release it in March so it can have more titles"; as opposed to when? It was decided that it would be relased at an earlier date beforehand.  Thus, delay.

They'll release ME4 on the NX for 60 dollars, and at the same time, the HD tetralogy for 30 dollars everywhere else.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I doubt it.  After getting burned by 3rd parties (specifically western 3rd parties) with the Wii U, Nintendo is probably depending entirely on themselves and a few select Japanese 3rd parties to do the heavy lifting in the NX's first year with western 3rd parties playing a supporting role with low-effort ports.  I doubt western 3rd parties will commit fully to the NX until Nintendo establishes the console as a platform with staying power.

That being said, I wonder if the NX reveal is going to be a multi-day thing.  Like on the first day, you have the console reveal and subsequent launch games lineup and a day or two afterwards dedicated to live-demos of those games and the NX's features.

Yeah, the fact that Nintendo even said it themselves that they are launching it in 2017 so games can go with it just makes me believe even more that it was originally supposed to release in 2016 but got pushed back.

I think Mass Effect Andromeda is the only big AAA EA game coming out in the first part of 2017 which would coincide with the launch of the NX as FIFA and Madden release in summer and fall. While it would be nice for the NX to get ME:A in it's launch or launch window I can't imagine that it had too much of an impact on the launch date for the NX.

On the contrary, a fall 2016 launch would have made more sense in the context of third party support because that is the season where most sports games, Call of Dutys and Assassin's Creeds are released. So a fall launch would secure those in the launch/launch window. Unless we're assuming that third parties will willingly port their holiday lineup to the NX when it's released in 2017, but given Nintendo's relation with 3rd parties and the poor sales of late releases on the Wii U, I don't really see this happening.

This is very old news. I think 3rd parties have an impact, but not the reason over all. Especially not games that are multiplat, not unless they are getting exclusive content for Mass Effect. Which would result in a massive nerd rage within the gaming community, and a lot of NX sales.

However I do think Andromeda will be coming to the NX. It's been mentioned many times, on the contrary. From my understanding. BioWare doesn't have NX development kits as far as I know. It's possible it's being outsourced or a very small team at BioWare has the kits and is porting the game in order to keep tight lips on the console.

EA just wanted to go over the list of missing or cancelled games for the platform while rubbing salt on Nintendo's gamepad /s.
