I've always wondered why the PS Vita didn't simply come with micro SD card capability.

 

I want to get a Vita, but the price of the memory card is simply ridiculous. 100 bucks for 64 GB? I was able to get an SDXC 64 GB micro-sd card for $40 for my 3DS.


Unless there's some cool feature for it that I haven't seen yet, I just find it plain weird that the Vita had its own unique memory card. 

Vita could have probably done much better without them. Even to this day(when Vitas are basically irrelevant) the memory cards are still expensive.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

The price was ridiculous. I think it had to do with battling piracy, not sure.

If I remember correctly the reason for the memory cards and no sd cards was to prevent piracy and hacking which was huge on the PSP, but that still does not justify the ridiculous memory card prices. I managed to get a 64 gb memory card for about $70 ahwile back, which is still super expensive, but better than the normal price.

Basically ruins my desire to get a Vita.

 

Shame to be honest. I actually would have considered getting.

Piracy is half the reason. The other is $$$. They're not making these things even remotely cheap. I get they're proprietary but that doesn't mean I should have to pay $2.25+ per gig.

I'll eventually cave and buy a 32GB for my PSTV and use it exclusively for P4G and some other cool PSP downloads that I can't play on PS3 for no discernible reason.

I think it was actually to appease retailers. A device sold at a loss which emphasized download titles. I know I wouldn't carry the device if I was a retailer. Probably gave a large chunk of the markup to stores.

Yup, I recall being this close to making the purchase many times over, then checking the memory cards price (seriously below 32gb it's too limiting) and being immediately put off... Too bad honestly, the early model with the IPS panel looked great... Panels is in part what puts me off buying a 3ds now, I can't stand the sight of their screens.... It's horrible!
