We are good for another 3 or 4 years.Generations needs to be longer due to development costs and time.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

And yet there's people here that are thinking that this "PS4K" is going to make developers eat the additional development costs to support an additonal hardware specification with no reason to expect additional sales.

"Console video game development costs are already at an all-time high. We have video games selling 3 million copies and losing money. I know! Let's make it more expensive for developers to support our platform!"

I mean really, how on earth does anyone actually think this is happening? Like I know many people wish the PS4 was more powerful (myself included) but that doesn't mean Sony should make a more powerful PS4.

Further off than you think, closer than I thought.

Basically it will probably be less than the PS3 lifecycle, but Sony will def be riding the sales success of the PS4 for as long as they possibly can.

If PS4K is a thing, 2019 makes sense to me

PS4 (2013) -> Neo (2016) -> PS5 (2019)

2021 even if the NEO is fake.

Which it isn't.

Its not only that.Games take now 3, 4 years, or even more.If generations were to last 4 years, games developed to a platform may already be outdated by the time it releases because either the new console is already on the horizon or already there.

Sony already said 2018 when they shown the PS4 on february 2013 (they talked about a 5 year cycle before the release of the next hardware if I remember well).
Since this time they may have changed their plan, but I don't believe rumors about the PS4K Neo.

2020 at the earliest.

2021 seems likely.

2022 for me. (I already have a backlog of PS4 games and I'll need as much time as I can get before a new system comes out lol)

2021 at the minimum if I had to guess ...

This gen isn't going to be shorter than the last one even if the NEO is fake and we won't get further chip cost scaling until that time when EUV hits hopefully ...

Neo is confirmed. But I don't think they've changed their plan. I believe the PS5 is going to be released in 2018/2019, despite of the Neo. Welcome to the iCrap console generation. Apple gets away with releasing a new interaction every year, Sony will try to do the same here.
