Forums - Sony Discussion - Heads Up: Firmware 3.50 + PS4 PC/Mac Remote Play Client Available Now

I've been testing remote play out for an hour or so and it works, yet not perfect.

First go to settings to set the resolution to 720p and fps to 60 fps. Otherwise you get the default 540p30.
It's all clearly explained here https://remoteplay.dl.playstation.net/remoteplay/lang/en/index.html

The first few tries were a bit of an ordeal, long time trying to connect, then buttons were all screwed up. Pressing forward made it jump too and using the navigational keys seemed to press []. 3rd attempt it worked (and couple more attempts after as well) Btw there is an alternative way to connect which works better than the default searching over the internet. (Select add device under remote play in settings which displays a number you have to type in on your pc)

I definitely feel the extra lag in a title like Trackmania Turbo. I made a video of it will upload it in a bit.
Image quality is, well, 720p with compression artifacts, and the occasional stutter or pixelation, that is over my home wifi. It uses between 8 and 10mbps, runs fluently most of the time and with a bit of practice I could still complete my tracks in Trackmania. It will not be fun trying to beat gold medal times however, better suited for slower games.

Gonna try to upload the video.

Oh, and colors are a bit washed out too on my laptop. Forcing RGB range to full in Settings, sound and screen, video output settings, fixes that. However I did that after taking the video and screenshot.

Those requirements.... This has become useless for me :(. Though, considering they got remote play working on the Vita, needing an i5 is unacceptable.

Wait? Does the remote play app have it's own video settings, or are you talking about the ones on your computer?

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

It has been a more stable after moving the laptop away from the ps4. Wifi interference maybe or my network cleared up.
Now even less need for social interaction, playing couch co-op on separate screens!

Some more screens with full RGB (PrtSc on laptop)

The more movement, the more motion artifacts naturally.

Videos showing the extra lag: (And my crappy wifi)

Racing on a track I made from scratch in the track editor

(dunno why there is no 60fps option, filmed it in 60i)

It's playable, yet image quality and lag make it less suitable for twitch racers.
Btw, I see the point of digital downloads now, can't swap the disc in my laptop :p

Yes.

You set it on the PC in the remote play app

Really hoping Sony will add 1080p later, was playing The Last of Us and it's kinda hard to properly spot enemies far away at 720p on a laptop screen.

Oh yeah, I had seen that you could change those in the app. I was more asking about the forced full RGB.

By the way, who on earth is going to play in 360p @ 30fps.

How far do you have to be for it to work? Could I play my friend's PS4 from my Macbook Pro miles away? Because if I can, I'm definitely using this.

Netflix sharing-gaming edition right here.

How are your devices connected? Wifi or ethernet?

My PC, PS4 and Xbox One are wired

You have to set the full RGB on the ps4, not controlled by the app. You can ofcourse do it in remote play. You can't however switch users in remote play. Since extra players can join in (directly connected to the ps4) I figured why not switch to a different user and play with the wireless controller connected to the ps4 instead. Yet you can only do that as a second player.

Another quirk, can't use the keyboard for typing messages DOH! The arrow keys and enter on the keyboard work for navigating virtual keyboard, facepalm!
