cod isn't a hardcore game because of what it is, it's sales don't matter.

All we know for certian is that a ton of games of all genres succeeded (some majorly) on wii.

We also know some genres did extremely well on Wii and some didn't. Its almost like... Wii had a different audience than its competitors.

And some genres didn't do well on ps360, and some did well on all three. It's almost like... every gaming gen ever.

Is there some thought that the Wii has less titles out there than the X360 or PS3? There are nearly 1800 retail games on that system where the X360 and PS3 have 1100 and just over 1000 games respectively.

I mean even the NTSC Complete wii games collection that guy completed recently was 1260 games.... 100 more titles than the X360 has globally.

Also @ JWeinCom, I agree with you someone who buys a console just to play the yearly release of CoD is no different to me than someone who just buys the system for Waggling Horse Petters 4 but still when it comes to the traditional gamer shall we say, those are the type of gamers who Activision advertises towards and who they want to bank from.

Other titles have the same sort of decline yearly as the "traditional" gamer went for one of the HD twins over the years

WWE literally ranks games in reverse order from 2008 > 2013 declining each year

the X360 search for the same gives the 2008 title the top spot but 2/3/4 all go to the later games of 2012/2013 and 2k14 (2k15 and 2k16 rate lower down but those games had a lot less features and released later on the X360 compared to the Next gen versions of the same game)

Also it's one thing for people to "think" that the traditional gamer dollar has moved away from the Wii/Wii-U playerbase, but when it comes to the WWE games, not only did those games decline in sales yearly on the Wii, but after 2012 they weren't ported to that system at all, nor did they come to the Wii-U both THQ and 2K sports also seem to "think" that the system lost that gamer from its playerbase and their "thinking" probably involved a lot more market research than I'm going to be doing digging through the VGchartz game list with the core game titles which come to mind (or actually came to the Wii at all, I was sure it had at least some of the Assassins Creed games ported to it, but seem to be wrong or the VGchartz DB is missing them).

I doubt the difference is that much but to put it simple, look at all the multiplatforms on ps360 that aren't on wii. They took long to surpass wii software sales even with that many more relevant games releasing for them but not on wii. Shovelware should be ignored on all three platforms.

Not really. Wii sales were just highly skewed towards the top selling titles. As you can see from this table of VGC data Wii starts out with stronger sales but drops off sooner. the numbers in the first column correspond to the sales position in the VGC software by platform chart.

  Wii  X360   PS3
1 82M  21M   21M
10 10.2M  9.8M   7.2M
20 6.5M  6.2M   5.9M
30 3.8M  4.7M   4.8M
40 2.9M  4M   3.9M
50 2.45M  3.4M   3.1M
# of million sellers 160 234 243
Tie ratio 9.49 11.6 11.05

You can see that Wii does best in the top 20, but once you get below the top 20 games things swing in favour of X360, and PS3 has the longest tail.  So it's a misinterpretation of the gross averages to say that Wii sold more per game. Because that's only true for the top 20 selling games of each platform, and that's only a tiny fraction of each console's game library.

Every console is skewed towards the top selling titles. doesn't change the fact that wii sold almost a smuch software with much less titles available, meaning it sold more software per title than the others.

Well you've just been shown to be wrong on the number of games front. And you totally don't understand what the top 20 analysis means. Your claim is that sales per game was higher. I showed that this is only true for the top 20 games. That means for the vast majority of the games library the 360 AND PS3 solf more per game. therefore taking total software and dividing by total games is a very poor way to analyse software sales performance per game. Number of million sellers and number of >500K sellers is a better measure of the health of the software market on each platform. BTW the number of games that sold between 500K and 1 million (according to VGC) for each platform was: Wii-170; X360-205; PS3-251

Why should you discount shovelware? Shovelware adds to the total software sales, so if you remove hundreds of games from the list on the basis of shovelware, then you also have to remove thier contribution to the software total. But still, with the hundreds of games that have sold >500K on each platform it is clear that more games did better on 360 and PS3 than Wii. In terms of number of games against which VGC records sales >0 the difference between most games and least games for the purposes of contributing to software total is less than 600K, and VGC actually records Wii as having the highest number of games with sales >0. So if anything taking shovelware out actually makes things worse for Wii U, as it's got more shovelware sales to remove than the HD systems.

Also you can't discount the last few years of sales on the PS3/360, since games have been releasing on Wii right up to last year, and according to VGC Wii is still selling similar amounts of software per year as Wii U, thus continuing to add millions of units of software sales to the Wii U total. Just because the hardware is largely off the market doesn't mean there isn't an active software market.

So much this lol, when I see someone suggest to not count the shovelware of the wii... but don't lower the number of total software sold just.... wow... I don't have the words.... they should have sent a poet.

Still though, to want to not include shovel ware as games, to suggest that mainstream games such as Call of Duty, Fifa and the WWE franchise are not core to gaming I mean... what is left to add up on the Wii? the sale of the first party games and compare them to how well the Mario titles sold on the X360 and Ps3? sure in that comparison the Wii was great at selling software (which was not on other platforms).

Oh right... Thunderbird was another returned ex permabanned member, makes a tiny bit more sense now, not sure if this was a missed alt or a second chance alt but I think with the exception of Barney's turn around these unbanned members are showing that a leopard cant change their spots and in some cases, they don't even try to.

Is there a thread which points out which new members here are actually returning banned members? Could be handy to know if these guys are meant to be here or have just sneaked under the radar.
