Forums - Gaming Discussion - 30 vs 60 fps - can you really see the difference?

Can you see the difference?

Right 60 fps; Left 30 Fps 220 62.32%

Left 60 Fps; Right 30 Fps 52 14.73%

Cant see a difference/Results 81 22.95%

Total:353

It really doesn´t matter, as long as the game runs smoothly.

Some games don´t need 60 fps to look gorgeous, it´s more a matter of design than a matter of what looks better.

I wouldn´t skip a good game just because it is not 60 fps, as long as the game is good and run smoothly.

60fps is more due to control then how it looks so games requiring good control from the player are better in 60fps, some games it's noticeable like in that video an easy way to spot the difference is simply look at the textures on the ground when he is running but in most cases it's not about being noticeable to the player.

Yes, I can see the smoothness of 60 fps. I usually can tell even when not comparing them side by side. But not having 60 fps never hurt my enjoyment of the experience whatsoever.

What really matters for me is having a stable frame rate without drops. As long as it is stable you will be able to respond to the action perfectly and in time. Your mind will be aware of the measurements. It takes me 400 milliseconds to click a button. Surly the the advantage of 16 milliseconds (the difference between 30 and 60 fps) isn't critical or massive. Especially when you take into consideration the additional display lag as well.

Anyways, it is smoother and better to have.

Your video compression and dropping frames is so shitty who can tell?

60 fps... lol... put 144 and then we're talking :)

edit: obvious right side 60, and still not good

It's noticeable when compared side by side, but by itself, I would have trouble discerning the two

It depends on the browser you use, if you can see a good difference. In Firefox or Safari it's hard to see a difference, in Chrome it's obvious. It also depends on the game you play. For example Super Mario Maker would be barely playable in 30fps. If the screen continuously scrolls right, you see 60fps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lylNypTqX-0

I find it mind blowing that there are people that cannot make the distinction between 30fps and 60fps. It seems rare, but I've encountered it enough to be able to say that people I know have trouble doing it. For me, it's ridiculously obvious. I suppose they must have some sort of limitation or slight impairment that makes this so. Of course, at around the 60fps mark, the more fps that are added on, the more the law of diminished returns kicks in. But 60 vs 30? Easy to tell.

It's really noticeable, you even have some sort of screen tearing on the 30fps part.

60 fps only matters for shooters & raceing games imo (also competitive games like mobas).
Everything else 30 fps is fine, and eye candy is a better goal to aim for.

Honeslty I think removeing screen tearing and such is more important.

G-Sync or Freesync, is something Id want more on a pc, than a pc thats able to run everything at 60 fps.

*edit:

I hope both slim versions of Xbox One & PS4, will be able to support Freesync.
