Forums - Nintendo - I Made Surveys Comparing the Corresponding/Similar Songs in Xenoblade and Xenoblade X, Vote for your Favorites!

Just my personal curiosity. Results will be post on the beginning of March. Corresponding songs meaning they are used at the same/similar occasions (Used on title screen, Credits theme, etc.). Different names for the same song is separated by /.

Due to Sawano's way of combining tracks in his CD, I specified which part of the song is considered.

There’s really no story spoilers in the song names beside the final boss themes, which you can choose to not vote for. The final boss theme comes after the boss theme selection in the battle music survey.

Thank you for participating & please share this if possible! :D

PS: Sylvalum comparison was a special case. I paired Sylvalum Day theme with Valak Mountain's Day theme, and Sylvalum Night theme with Satorl Marsh's Night theme.

Well that was hard. Well the first one was. Main theme I gave to the original. And I gave Beyond the Sky the edge over Your Voice by a hair. But I actually dealt like Mysterious from X trumps the Mystery from Chronicles. Also, I feel Tragic Decision lost out to X's music mainly because Tragic Decision is obliged to maintain enough tempo to be a battle theme which blunts the impact while X's is contextual.

Field was super easy IMO. Gaur Plains trumps Primordia, but Noctilum shreds Makna. I thought Valak had a chance, at least the night one, until I listened to The Sylvalum themes again :P . Erryth and Ocean split theirs. But Cauldros lost out to Central factory (and BTW, the actual finale dungeon music from Prison Island is FAR better than both :P). NLA lost to the town theme of Chronicles, although I do have a soft spot for the Day theme. But I actually really like the Manon themes and find them much more memorable than Frontier Village. Oh, and while I get Oblivia doesn't have a counterpart in Chronicles, a comparison would have been nice. Especially since it would be hard to find it a worthy opponent :P

As for the battle section, that was a pretty even splith. Mechanical Rhythm took the cake in its match up as did the standard battle theme from Chronicles. However, Sir Fliegen owned the vision one. Uncontrollable won over They Will Know Our Names but that's partly cause I never felt that one was even better than Mechanical Rhythm (and Uncontrollable is just awesome). Final boss themes both went to Chronicles, though The Key We've Lost came really close. However, I intentionally TOOK the reward from Unfinished Battle cause I've got a bone to pick with you: where the crap is No EX01?! Not having that in a boss battle discussion is just patently unfair to X. Thematically I would pair it up with Unfinished Battle and I think it TRUMPS Unfinished Battle. So yeah, mistake there :P .

Good pole. IMO, shows how X is certainly a worthy successor in music. I don't think it's quite as good in music, but it mainly comes down to lower and more prominent lows (NLA night, Tatsu's theme (though I don't like Riki's even more) etc) and misuse/overuse (seriously, The Way is great but way overused. Where are the three BEAUTIFUL piano pieces?).

I did consider putting EX01 in the boss battle music, but that song was primarily used in skell boss battles, and I only wanted to have two tracks for each choice. Trust me, it was a hard choice for me to eliminate all the skell battle themes... The reason I paired Unfinished Battle with In the Forest is because they are only used once in their respective game, and I think both tracks deserves more recognition. It still saddens me that there is no real counterpart to Engage the Enemy...

I guess I could still add two more selections into the battle themes if there are fitting counterparts in XB. Any tracks in XB do you think I should pair up Oblivia and EX01 with?

To EX01, Confrontation with the Enemy seems appropriate as both pull double duty as Boss Battle and Thematic music.  Also a worthy matchup.

For Oblivia, I don't know.  You could just pair it up with any old field theme.  You haven't used the ones from Agniritha, Fallen Arm, Mechonis Field, or Sartorl Marsh.

Sylvalum comparison was a special case. I paired Sylvalum Day theme with Valak Mountain's Day theme, and Sylvalum Night theme with Satorl Marsh's Night theme. Sorry if there are confusions; both areas have great similarity to Sylvalum. Oblivia is now paired with Mechonis Field, while NO.EX01 is with Engage the Enemy.

Awsome!   I love Xenoblade Chronicles Music glad someone made this thread, But you should have links up next to the options so you could listen to it and compare.

Xenoblade Chronicles has the best soundtrack I can think of. Xenoblade X also has a nice soundtrack but it´s not that good. The only track that I think could be better is the one from Noctilum vs Makna Forest and maaaybe the cave´s theme which is one of my favourite tracks from X.
Anyway, nice poll! I´m waiting for the results to see what people think! :)

Though I wont be voting, since i still need to Play XCX and listening to the music before playing is spoiler for me, i find the idea interesting

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=241866&page=1

Thanks for doing this! Was way more difficult than I expected it to be. Nostalgia goggles had me thinking the original's soundtrack would destroy X's, but I found that my votes were actually split fairly evenly. I still maintain that the original has a more complete soundtrack and maybe a little more variety in terms of genre/instrumentation potentially (some of Sawano's style trademarks get a little repetitive, and sometimes his best melodies are 20-second treasures surrounded by 2 minutes of fluff on both ends--I'm looking at you, Primordia and Oblivia themes), but X's soundtrack really does hold up well. I love both. :p But the original's Main Theme, Beyond the Sky, and Unfinished Battle put it a step above still, for me. While X has Sylvalum...damn was that difficult to choose over Satorl Marsh's night them...that was the tightest contest for me. Here's hoping the next Monolith Soft game continues this trend of fantastic music to go along with huge, beautiful, creative areas to explore!

Upcoming Games To Get

Definite: Kirby Star Allies (Switch), Mario Tennis Aces (Switch), Fire Emblem (Switch), Yoshi (Switch), Pokemon (Switch), Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4), Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Considering: Fe (Switch), Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch), The World Ends With You (Switch), Ys VIII (Switch), Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4), Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Remix (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS4), Anthem (PS4), Shenmue 3 (PS4), WiLD (PS4)

this was easy, cause Sawano is bae.

tho I do prefer Riki's theme over Tatsu's
