Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Can Super Smash Bros's graphics get any better??....

How can Nintendo make the next Super Smash Bros. look any better? Brawl ran 480p 60fps and the franchise suprisingly skipped 720p and went straight for 1080p 60fps. I DOUBT the next Smash will run 4k 60fps. It's not just about resolution. It's also about textures too. If you play Smash 4 and pause the screen you can see beautiful textures and hidden realistic stuff you can find. I just don't think it can look any better! Graphics isn't everything but it could be a problem for the next Smash Bros game.

The game looks great as it is, concentrate on getting characters/stages/modes... If anything, Smash should focus on keeping the framerate as stable as possible. That is key to the gameplay.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

It probably could look better with better shaders and stuff. But Smash 4 does look really nice. I spent a few good minutes making Zelda and others turn around in the stats/special move editor screen to see the dress swish back and forth.

If it's not photo-realistic yet, it can get better.

Of course it can look better.

This is nothing realistic about the art direction of Smash Bros. If you don't think so, you better hope the NX is literally a Wii U in a different form factor, because the Wii U, performance wise is as good as it gets.

Yeah they can. The backgrounds in Smash Bros 4 aren't really great graphically, the textures could be a lot better. Same for the 3D models of the characters.

Yes. Sharper textures, more detailed stage models and backgrounds. better effects. Smash is still making do with rather simple effects for a lot of things, but more power will allow for more intense ones. So yeah, absolutely.

It can always look better but is does look really good. The Smash aesthetic just looks good at its core. Brawl still looks good. Melee is still decent to look at, and even Smash 64 is still very much playable. It helps that you fight on a 2d plane of course.

Yeah.

I mean, Smash Wii U has no anti-aliasing, and some of the textures aren't the best.

Heck, I don't think Captain Falcon and Ryu's lips move when they taunt, so there is definitely room for improvements.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
