Forums - Nintendo Discussion - the Wii U is not getting replaced this year, guys

Some seem to forget that the only reason the NX was mentioned in Spring last year, was to allay the fears of those who might think that announcement of the partnership with DeNA would be signalling a move away from their core focus of dedicated gaming consoles.

Nintendo didn't want to announce the NX that early, but they had to. Those who predict a Nov 2016 release should take this fact into account.

NX will come November 2016-March 2017. Plain and simple. They don' t have games to support the thing for the entire 2017. What they are developing now except for Zelda, Star Fox and maybe Pikmin 4 is going to be released on the NX.

And thats pretty much it.

So what makes you so sure they have a good lineup for NX launch and beyond so it doesn't have any droughts?

Seriously. Fu**ing stop.

Hey, no need to be rude here. Hold your horses.

Nothing, the NX may have the same weak-standard launch catalogue that the Wii U had. But that doesn't mean anything. Wii didn't had new games for the entire 2012, just localized games from Japan and some other minor things. Someone could think that they were preparing to give the Wii U an outstanding launch window. But nope: NSMBU, and Nintendo Land were the only games made by Nintendo at launch. And the next ones would take 6 months to arrive.

how do you know that they dont have games lined up to support it in 2017? does sony have any games to support the ps4 in 2017? im not aware of any games that are currently announced on the ps4 that are coming out in 2017 besides maybe shenmue.

Because they have 5 games confirmed for this year, two that should have been released last year, one that has already been released in Japan, another that is a port of an arcade machine, another port from Gamecube and another one that is being made by SEGA. Except for Zelda and Star Fox, the others are esentially leftovers. If they are feeding the poor machine with leftovers in 2016... what can we expect from 2017? From my perspective: nothing.

that's just a bunch of nothing.

you act like it is impossible for them to announce things.........................................................................................

And you act like the evidences are not there... and I'm not complaining about it. Unlike you with my opinion.

If they were planning to robustly support the Wii U for another two years, I have to think there would have been far more new games shown ... they had many oppurtunities even with Mr. Iwata's passing. That November Direct with no new big projects from any of the core Nintendo teams was pretty much a dead giveaway.

I think Nintendo internally decided to "move on" from Wii U after holiday 2013 results came in and it was clear they were not going to get the Wii casuals back. Projects that were already in development like Splatoon and Zelda and Xenoblade would continue, but from this point on they started to focus more internally on the NX and the Wii U would get more filler titles farmed out to externally developers. In early 2014, Mr. Iwata started to talk about a "new hardware concept" and a unified platform structure like iOS and that all this would take 2 years to come to realize.

My guess is about early 2014, Nintendo made some big decisions regarding the future of their company (including begrudingly oking smartphone games).

When was last time Nintendo announced new Wii U game that isnt small project, spinoff or port!? I personally cant remember, maybe Star Fox Zero at E3 2014!? Why is that, because Nintendo is focused on NX probably from 2014. and they continue to support Wii U only with previously announced games, small projects, spinoffs and ports.

Games that are almost certain for NX launch this year are new 3D Mario, Zelda U port, posible Pikmin 4 and some other game/s. About software droughts, whole point of unified platform and merging handhelds and home consoled teams and divisions is to prevent software droughts like this gen.

its been a real annoyance watching people live their lives as if this NX thing is releasing 2016, end of story. look, guys, it isnt happening. if anything, we might see a 3DS replacement. but the wii u? definitely not getting replaced this year. did you guys know that nintendo is still selling this console for $300? when in history was a console $300 the year it got replaced? never, that's when. nintendo is making money off the wii u right now, and they will all year. 2017 might be a good year to replace the wii u. right now, nintendo is still showing incredible support on all of its wii u software, and you guys honestly think that this console is going to be dropped by the end of the year? it isnt happening. i have declared that it isnt happening, and that is the end of it.

discuss.

Why you think so many people think NX will be relased this year!?

Because almost everything points to 2016. launch for NX. Also every info, report or rumour points for 2016. launch, I will just mentione few of them, Digitimes report, Wall Street Journal report and Nomura Securities report (Japanes business analyst firm).

Why Wii U still has $300 price, because Nintendo is making profit with that price and price cut wouldn't change anything because Wii U is selling terrible, but at least they can have profit on evere sold console. Also when NX launch they will probably have price cut.

End of 2016. will be 4 whole years of full Nintendo support, that's on pair with other Nintendo consoles with difference that last year or two are almost completely dead in terms of support so even other Nintendo consoles had longer life span they also had support of around 4 years like WIi U.

ok, now you got me really perturbed.

its not happening, its not happening, its not happening. the wii u is not being replaced this year. its just not happening.

*plugs ears with fingers*

LA LA LA LA LA *its not happening* LA LA LA LA

3DS replacement = end of the Wii U anyway.

So it doesn't matter then does it. Nintendo will have to throw all major development towards a 3DS successor, which will have graphics probably rivalling the Wii U itself.

If the 3DS successor fails, that's basically curtains for Nintendo as a hardware manufacturer so they can't just fart out a 3DS successor with lukewarm support while still juggling the Wii U.

So that theory doesn't fly at all. Oh and by the way, the reason Wii had such shit support in 2011 and 2012, was because Nintendo was making 3DS games ... so that isn't the first time this has happened either (and the 3DS successor will require more dev time/resources as it almost certainly should be capable of some pretty impressive high end 3D graphics).

Even with GameCube, Nintendo basically gave up on the system with internal support after 2004 ... why? Because they were working on the Nintendo DS.

Actually saving 3DS also very affected Wii U launch and 1st year.

Star Fox 0 isn't even internally developed (hi Platinum) and it looks like it has a tiny budget to boot.

The last "big" new internal game title that Nintendo showed for the Wii U was Splatoon at E3 2014, that's now 18 months ago and we know Splatoon was in development from mid-2013, at that point they probably were still hoping Wii Sports Club/Wii Fit U would bring back the Wii audience (that holiday season would crush that hope).

It was both. Nintendo really cannot handle two platforms at once, certainly not with launch windows.
