Forums - General Discussion - why do you believe todays children have less respect for the mums and dads

Have you ever considered turning off the TV, sitting down with your children, and beating them? - Bender Bending Rodriguez

I do support Battle Royale bills though. But that movie is banned in the US I thought.

And hell, kids were stupid when I was growing up, it's not a new feeling for any generation, and it's not a comfortable one to realize A) How stupid you actually were and B) That it seems to be getting worse. Also, older members would probably correctly say I'm still growing up.

i know lol.

i see kids answering their parents "what" when they call them and yelling at them etc. the amoutn of attitude they give is unbeleiveable.

i have my fair share ofp robs with my parents, but when it gets to big, my mom pulls out da belt. Lolz (im 14)

i wonder what it would be like if kids 2day were raised like how my parents were back in the carribean

Because parents are complaining whole the time;.That was why I left my parents on my 12.

Because most Parents don't deserve respect.

And no, beating your kids and making them afraid of you is not repect, its fear, and they still won't respect you, but you can feel safe with the hillbilly mentality that a beaten kid is a good kid.

I am a Gauntlet Adventurer.

I strive to improve my living conditions by hoarding gold, food, and sometimes keys and potions. I love adventure, fighting, and particularly winning - especially when there's a prize at stake. I occasionally get lost inside buildings and can't find the exit. I need food badly. What Video Game Character Are You?

My Fiance won't discipline our daughter. She(my fiance) gives her(my daughter) whatever she wants. As a result, my 6 year is very disrespectful when I'm not around. On the other hand, I'm not mean, but I expect things to be done the right way. I explain to her why things are done the way they are done. The result; she goes out of her way to please me. We do homework together. We go to movies together. We play the Wii together. My kid isn't perfect, but I can see in my own household the difference in being a friend, and being a parent.

No generation is any different than the ones before it. When I was a teenager it was the same as I see teenagers now. When my parents where teenagers it was the same (or so they tell me) as it is now. Every generation gripes about today's kids, but yet it's never really any worse. Isolated incidents are not an indication of the whole. You don't notice the kids who honor, repspect and love their parents because they aren't making a scene.

I know you believe you understand what you think I said but I don't think you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

@CrashMan
every parent deserves their respect. some parents more than others but there shouldn't be a reason not to respect your parents. however, i know there's some extremes (abandonment at birth, left in a dumpster, ect...). but when we mention beatings, we mean (well at least i do) corrective, constructive beatings. not over-the-top excessive beatings w/ no purpose behind them...

Yeah not enough discipline and too spoiled, I mean how many people here didn't pay for their console, doesn't pay for their cell phone, list goes on.

I object to that.  I don't pay for anything (food, gas, games, any money spent with friends, etc.), but I have more respect for my parents and am more obedient that most children today.  Simply because you're not paying for things does not mean you're spoiled.  I spend 7 hours in school and 4 hours doing homework.  I'd love to meet a working adult who has to work 55 hours a week doing thinking intensive work and gets as little money as I do.
