Forums - Gaming - The problem with MS/Nintendo Consoles is they are just soo skippable.

think about it.

when i got a wii i was able to play gamecube games on wii.  and the wiiU can play wii games.  xbox 360 can play xbox (one) games and xbox one can play xbox 360 game.  microsoft and nintendo are just committed to always being the last generation of games to their next generation console,.. a commitment i fully expect to continue with the nintendo NX and xbox two.

but with sony if i want to play ps2 game i have to have a ps2.  if i want to play ps3 games i have to have a ps3.  so if i don't get a ps4 how will i ever play the games on a ps4?

with sony i'm compelled i to have to buy every console.  microsoft and nintendo consoles just feel like an every other generation thing now.  and that's their biggest problem,.. their consoles are just soo easy to skip.

I know the PS3 started with PS2 backwards compatibility. PS2 was backwards compatible with PS1 aswell if i recall.

My point beeing... Nope, its just you.

Every console is skippable. You don't need to play those PS2 classics when PS3 is out with modern games. You don't need to play PS3 classics when PS4 is out. Not to mention BC for the most part is never 100% BC and never as good as playing it on the original console. Glitches, hardware/software issues, incompatible games, etc.

In the end it boils down to the same as buying any other console. Are there games you want enough to pay the price. For me the PS3 was skippable. And every Nintendo console after the N64.

Also, there's still PS Now. I guess all Sony consoles will be skippable in the near future. Buy a Sony BR player instead.

"if i want to play ps3 games i have to have a ps3"

A console is only skippable for this reason if it lacks a compelling library. Not many people are willing to go, "Wow, that game looks amazing! However, if I wait 3-6 years I can play it on the next system and save a bit of money."

The success of the Wii or lack of success for Wii U did not hinge on backwards compatibility.

And on this bit of wisdom, I'm closing out this conversation.

I'm sure this was a joke thread, but I can see the future and it's moderation-heavy.

Locking now.
