Forums - Politics Discussion - 30-day refund (physical and digital) becomes law in the UK

Uk industry will nosedive, they make it too easy to buy a product, (game) complete it or get bored of it then get your money back and repeat.

I know a douche (here in the USA) that platinumed The Order 1886 and returned it for full price.

Retailers should be entitled to a restocking fee.

i like this in theory but for games at least i think "faulty" is really hard to define. is it faulty if there are framerate drops? lots of internet assholes will probably say yes.

..but for batman PC and tony hawk this seems like a good policy. broken as shit games should be returnable.

I assume you have to prove the good is faulty before they blindly give you your money back.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

It could potentially make companies perform more testing and QA on their games as under this law if the problems of the PC version of Arkham Knight happened on consoles then this would allow everyone to refund the game due to a faulty product. PC wise steam refunds basically cover what this law will bring in anyway for any standard gamer.

Except Steam Refunds only apply for less than 2 hours of gameplay which isn't enough to ensure that there's no game breaking bugs.

You can do that in Australia. Play a game for 7 days and return it for a full refund. No industry nosedive so far.

Could have kicked Bethesda up the ass when Skyrim was released if this was in motion back then. Fallout 4 should now be a more interesting situation.

So basically it doesn't change a thing?

30 day refunds for faulty goods has been standard in the UK for as long as I can remember...

Not exactly the same, here it's full on law now that anything you buy that's buggered is covered for 30 days by default were as before I think the law just said something about giving a fair amount of time which was up to the store's discretion. In other words you're more covered then before.

Steam and Origin type refunds are required for PSN and XBL. Anything less is unacceptable.

this is great

I wonder if a buggy game like say AC unity at launch qualifies as a faulty product.

If it does, publishers are trembling in their boots about now. And, if it does, it will result in less rushed games and therefore bigger quality products at launch. I aprove of this.
