Forums - Sony Discussion - Should I get my PS3 through eBay?

I've got about $300 to go to my PS3, would going through eBay be a good idea?  I've used it before but the most expensive thing I've bought through it was my Creative Zen for a little over $100.  I haven't had any problems before but I'm just a bit cautious.  Looking at some of the bids I could probably get one for a little over $200 and get a game or two afterwards.  The only problem is that most of them are refurbs.  I don't mind since my Zen is also a refurb and it works just fine.  I just need some opinions to help me make up my mind, here's an example of one of the units.

PS3 60GB

I usually only get games and stuff through Ebay, and even then I try to get new items. If it was me, I'd only go with Ebay if I desperately wanted a 60gb, but if you're a bit more laid back about these things, then I see no reason not to go through ebay, provided the seller has a 99%+ rating.

Just make sure you get insurance.

Edit: Apparently I missed the fact that it was a 60gb system you are looking for.  I say go for it.  Full BC is worth it, and you most likely won't find one any other way.

Yes, you should.

That's the only way you're going to find one that's not a 40g.

If you are really looking to get a 60 gig yeah. I mean the hardware is pretty solid, so unless the user treated it like shit it should be fine.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

i got mine 60gb version from ebay 2 months ago came with the box and still running strong times i log 10 hours a day on ffx and no problems. Only a bit scratched up but no big deal. The auction you listed has it for 280 with 2 hours left which is pretty good but it might be hard to get one for 300 dollars pretty much guaranteed to go into the mid 300s.. I got mines for 420 with shipping so dont pay more than that.

Personally I would buy games online, but buying a system that wasn't new would scare me. Unless you get a good deal on it personaly I would just wait and get it new, but thats just me.

Yes, but be sure to read the seller's feedback and carefully read the bidding. Some of them are just scams.

Sure, if it is at least $60 cheaper as an overall deal AND is from someone who has a good reputation AND is in the US.

I have more than 60 feedbacks on eBay (100%), and I honestly have to say that I would NOT recommend you to get a console from eBay.

Accessories? Yes, clothing? Sure (beware of fakes), but an electronics device that can easily break on you and will cost a lot to fix? Absolutely not.

Buy it from local dealer, or wait for a price drop

You risk it breaking down soon after purchase and there's nothing you can do unless it's still in warranty and they will give you the receipt.

If you have $300 you only need $100 more, I see a 40gb PS3 is only $400 on Amazon.com.

Maybe you have a few games or gadgets you could sell on Ebay to make the extra $100.

At least then you will have piece of mind for 1 year whilst it's in warranty.

Oh yea, and use a credit card if you can, even on Ebay, because that gives you extra cover on expensive items.
