Forums - Gaming Discussion - Deus Ex: Mankind Divided pre-order system uses controversial tiered rewards

I edited the title to help explain the situation.

Personally, I find this unpalatable. I definitely hope everyone who gets the game gains access to all these tiers. That would help mitigate a rather unseemly business practice.

It's an advertising scheme.  It's going to unlock many times over.  Even if it did not, they'd say it did and unlock everything, anyway.

Personally, I don't think it's the best idea but it's not exactly the end of the world, either.  People like the OP blow things out of proportion to an amazing degree.

Though, unlocking issue aside, I rather like the "choose your pre-order bonus" idea, with everything avaliable in the collector's edition.

I agree this is most likely promotional theater. And it's not the end of the world. But I dislike pre-order bonuses in general, and when they're conflated with Kickstarter-esque tiers, I really don't like them.

Lol, I honestly don't see the problem.

lol all this drama for tiny insignificant pieces of pre-order bonus dlc.

Most people who will play this game (and most other games) wont be pre-ordering it, and they wont give a crap about what the pre-order bonuses were.

Seems like a bit of unnecessary drama, but I won't be pre-ordering

Mostly because of Mirror's Edge, XCOM 2 and Uncharted 4 coming fairly close by, but this doesn't do it any favours

I also don't see the issue.
Actually, I find it positive that you have a choice of a bonus, that way you receive what you want the most.
More games should actually use this type of "choose your own reward" system.

Funly enough, some publishers on steam has been doing stuff like this for quite sometime now. If you pre-order Tales of Zestria on steam for example, there are 3 tiers of pre-orders and more the people that pre-order, the more "rewards" you will unlock

http://store.steampowered.com/app/351970/

So its nothing really all that new although SE does take it a lot further

Ehh, I don't see this as a big deal. Nothing different than publishers offering different rewards at separate retailers. I don't recommend that anyone preorder anything, but there's a massive over reaction to what is essentially nothing here.

I thought this was a pretty universally hated practice.  If I am buying a game, and especially if I am pre-ordering it, I want to have all the content of that game.  I don't want to be locked out of something just based on where I buy it.
