Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Digital Foundry vs Gears of War: Ultimate Edition

Finally, played 5 hours of multiplayer last night 😏 To me this is the best Gears MP so far, it plays so smooth and looks beautiful, feels like a fresh game. Seems quite balanced and all the essential features are there, nonsense like retro lancer and sawed off shotgun are gone. Sometimes you get stuck in walls when wallbounching but it doesn't happen often. Matchmaking was great, even and fun matches, 4v4 is a way to go.

If you're tired of run 'n gun multiplayers like CoD and you want a challenge, play this game. There's a learning curve and you gotta work for every kill, there's no noob weapons for cheap kills anymore. But boy it's rewarding!

I didn't play much campaign yet..going from 60fps to 30fps right away was horrible. So jarring I couldn't handle it. But I can tell you, the game looks gorgeous! Didn't think they could make a 10 years old game look like a new game.

Gears is not a game from this gen thats the difference

The remaster delivers graphics of this gen. It seems people are ignoring that minor detail.

I dont think anybody complained about the lack of 60 fps in Halo Anniversary because of the vastly improved graphics.

so does its campaign look as good as the order or bloodborne?

I dunno about Bloodborne. Its a nice looking game but also has a generic quality Ive come to expect Japanese games. I feel Gears UE looks better but Im sure others will disagree.

The Order is hands down the better looking game. But lets take a few things into consideration. The Order was in development longer than most games, it likely had a bigger budget than most games, and its sub 1080p to further push presentation. The problem with The Order is it pushed graphics over everything else and thats why is flopped in both sales and critically. It had the potential to be Sony's biggest shooter but graphics arent everything.

Look, Im not arguing Gears UE is the new benchmark in 8th gen graphics. But its a really nice looking game. If people want graphics significantly more polished that last gen delivered, it certainly offers that.

Bloodborne has better graphics than both the Order or UE. Its a better quality engine that can render more stuff than both in these games and has more destructables and GPU calculated physics effects. Really Gears UE looks better than this?

look at this generic quality made in Japan

30 fps only.... no thx.. and after watching comparison video i think x360 look more better! fell more natural!

Sorry, posting a gif isn't gonna change my mind. Many games look great at moments, but on average its... fine.

If you think Bloodborne is the best looking game... well... I don't know what to tell you.

Maybe Bloodborne has the best GPU calculated physics. You can have that if you want.

No.

It doesn't look as good as two of this gens best looking games. Did that change the fact that it has graphics of this gen? It's that the criteria for "graphics of this gen"?

have you even played the Order or Bloodborne? The Orders engine cant even calculate more than one wolf per time, Bloodborne is open World and has plenty of enemies who come in all kinds of lifeforms by the way and it has decent graphics. From a aestatics level sure the order looks better but at what cost?

I am talking about the order because i am sure you think its best looking videogame

ITT we learn a game must look as good as The Order or Bloodborne to have 8th gen graphics.

By the way, you can fight more than one wolf at a time in The Order. And it looks like it does because it was in development for 5 years and is like.. oppressively linear. Does a remake of a last gen game running on the same old engine look as good as that? No. Does that matter? No.

This is now a debate of pushing the hardware technically versus most impressive visual assets.

Gears UE is impressive because it has nice looking assets, its 1080p, and can handle a fairly large number of characters models in a fire fight. It has a some rough spots and other spots that look stunning. The polished presentation pushing 60 fps during multiplayer is nice as well.

Something like The Order is generally doing less but the assets look amazing, almost like you're playing a cinematic. That's a similar reason Ryse was given so much praise. That game had impressive looking assets and put many character models out at once.

In the past I argued Halo 4 is one of the most technically impressive games of the 7th gen but Naughty Dog games have better looking assets.

Perhaps you appreciate Bloodborne for everything its pushing on the hardware. But when we talk best graphics, thats more about how detailed the characters and environments are.

Personally I feel Batman:AK is the best looking game of the gen thus far. That's an open world game with very high quality visuals.
