Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is PlayStation Smarter Than XBOX Games Division

This year will be steller for gaming, particularly from 3rd parties.

MGS5

Witcher 3

Batman AK

Are already amazing games.

Then there's still Fallout 4 and the return of CODs best current dev with Black Ops 3, and the very exciting Star Wars Battlefront.

Is Sony smart to hold back its major exclusives until 2016 where there's not as much stellar competition?

Exlcusives are best when there's a lack of 3rd party major hitters. Seems like the full line up is already here. The average consumer doesn't buy THAT many games  a year.

Why put Halo against the return of fan favourite Black Ops and Star Wars. Then tomb Raider against MGS and Fallout with GOTY contenders like Batmam and Witcher probably discounted at the time as well.

So you're saying Sony isn't really smarter, but they simply lack the confidence in their exclusives.

According to that brilliant definition literally every game is niche.

Oh and aren't you a special little snowflake, "look at me guys, I think ND makes bad games and everyone else that likes them (which includes critics and millions of consumers) is just stupid and if it wasn't for these arbritrary reasons I've set then their games wouldn't sell at all".

And if you think that those games didn't compete with NDs games then maybe you can, in your utter brilliance, tell us what it would be that comes out this year that Uncharted 4 wouldn't be able to compete with, apparently it's not something like Fallout 4 (an RPG), Halo 5 or Battlefront (mp shooter). What is it then? Rise of the Tomb Raider? That's just completely laughable when comparing the interest each of these games have garnered up to this point.

Best thing is that you say a ND game wouldn't have been able to compete last year, when surprise, surprise TLOU sold 3.7 million copies last year.

Let me be absolutely frank here, as I don't think your comment deserves any kind of sugarcoating, your comment was absolute bollocks.

TRrebootreboot 2 will outsell uncharted 4.  i take a bet.

and im not a special snowflake, but you dont have to be special to know that game critics are a bunch of  shitlords.

and i dont talk about that stupid to much water BS.  the most of the gaming critics dont follow the journalistic code,  they take bribes, wage wars against people they dont like, etc.  and than there is the part of gaming critics that isnt just corrupt, but totaly retarded(the people gamergate was about).

i dont trust the most of gaming critics, and you shouldnt too. they are not like movie or literature critics.

Great job dodging most of my post.

1. Even if that was going to be the case, you do realize the exclusivity status here right? If both games came this year then they still wouldn't be on the same platform. Also I find the idea that Tomb Raider is still somehow this gaming juggernaut while UC is apparently not able to compete ridiculous considering that for years until the 2013 Reboot TR was on the brink of complete irrelevancy while Uncharted was flourishing. The only way RoTR has a chance of outselling UC4 is if it gets excessively bundled and put on constant Steam sales, in normal retail sales it doesn't stand a chance against UC4.

2. If that, incredibly childish, notion about game reviewers is to be taken seriously, what about the consumers? What about the millions of people that buy these games? Go on any site where consumers can rate games and you will find ND games always having very positive ratings, are those also from "shitlords" and "retards"? And what about the excitement for UC4? All UC4 trailers and gameplay videos have up to this point gathered over 23 million views on the PS channel alone (btw compare that to RoTR trailers/gameplay and weep, it's not even a fair fight), are they coming from all these "retarded and paid off journalists" as well?

you want to take the bet? Rtrebootreboot 2 will outsell uncharted 4.

and i dont trust all of my fellow gamers, some think cod is a good shooter and bf has a good story.

All I get from post like these is people admitting in a roundabout way that MS holiday lineup is crazy good. On top of having all of the 3rd party heavy hitters, here are some exclusives.

If Sony was doing MS holiday strategy, there would be articles (and rightly so) saying "Has Sony finally decided to stop playing around, and go for the death kill, poor MS".

yes i was wrong, fifa is niche, but well the football niche is fuckn huge in europe.

beeing niche is nothing bad, for console maker its a good move to make a good game for a niche, players who prefer niche games are way more likely to buy a console just for one game.

(sry im to stupid to quote this again, but its from you too.)"And "ND games only sell well in slow years", like 2013 that had GTA V or 2011 that had Skyrim and Battlefield 3"

do you realy think a zombieshooter or a actionadventure with plot in the quality of the last indianer jones movie competes with a hookerbeating simulator, a rpg or a bad mpshooter with a story with the quality of american battleship?

ROFLMAO

Im done man, im done...

Isnt Football (what americans call soccer) the biggest & most popular (most played) sport in the world (by a huge margin)?

If you want to tell me how we are going to determine the sales for these games, then sure.

Oh and so what you're basically saying is that your opinion is the one and only relevant opinion that even decides what has the power to compete and what doesn't?

Maybe in a year when the diffinitive version comes out on PS4 and you COMBINE them with X1 sales, then MAYBE it could outsell U4 being PS4 only and all.  The X1 version doing it though by itself?  Not a chance in hell.

americans dont call it even football.  its an european thing thats popular in some excolonies too. but not all over the world.  the typicall football fan is male, played football at somepoint in his life and likes to drink beer. its a niche, but its still big, liek realy big

all sales, 2 years after the game launch(dont want to wait till the end of the generation, but we can if you want)

racing is big in europe, but its not for casuals, its not made with casuals in mind and its not marketed with casuals in mind.

fifa isnt niche because football is religion in europe, and its the biggest by far.

ND games just sell well in slow years, the writting and the gameplay could never stand against realy good games(last year and this year would be realy bad for uncharted 4 or 0815zombieshooter 2 because we had some realy great 3rd party games.) they are like big action movies, badly written full of cliches, easy to disgest and heavly marketed.  and sells doesnt mean quality, or django unchained would be alot worse than any transformers movie.

Breathing is also pretty niche.  It's only for living things, which is a very specialized sector.

I'm not sure how on Earth you think ND games sell well in slow years only, or how it can't stand against "realy good games"...

Second game got a meta of 96, it got that for being a slow year?  I don't know about you, but I don't rate games based on the games this year.  I rate them based on how much I enjoy them.  And Uncharted 2 and The Last of Us were two of my favorites of all time.  They were not just my favorites that year...

GT and forza are niche games, big niches but still niches.

halo isnt, it made for casuals and has a lot of fans.

and uncharted wouldnt stand a chance against mgs, the quality of mgs games is just so much higher. ND needs a quite year to sell alot of games.

and TR is exclusive to xbox so yes its a m$ game even if they just payed for it.

Kojima even likes Uncharted.

Do you have anything to back up these statements?

you can like things that arent good. i like schwarzenegger movies, but that doesnt mean they are good.  enjoyment isnt bound to quality.

I'm partial to the Xbox side of things and I don't think either is necessarily smarter than the other, but Sony is knocking it out of the park with their 3rd party partnerships this year. I've said it once and I'll say it again, Sony won the holiday NPD with COD and Battlefront. And ironically, both of those games are coming out on Xbox One. However, 3rd party partnerships sell consoles to the casual and the mainstream.
