Im just saying that Nintendo needs to shake things up. Im a Zelda fan and have bought them all, but Im not getting Trihex Force or Forced Trihex or whatever that thing is called. They are just getting lazy at this point.

I think at this point they're just trying to ride out this gen with as much profit as possible.

It's encouraging that they're putting so much stake into games like Splatoon and Xenoblade Chronicles X, while still investing in other risky projects like Codename STEAM, The Wonderful 101 and Tomodachi Life, and reviving franchises like Kid Icarus and Star Fox. It's just that they typically don't give the needed marketing push for these games (aside from Splatoon and TL, which nailed it).

Of course, they need to do stuff like this more, but given the situation they're in right at this moment, I can kind of understand. Hopefully they begin the 9th gen with a bang and try out risky things from the gate. I don't want to see any resources wasted on stuff like Wii Fit or Wii Sports (and looking at the sales for the games on Wii U, I don't think we will).

and what do you think got them in the situation they are in right now? I know they hate to spend money, but they need to do something.

I dont understand them. I bought a WiiU and now Im just going to say "but many other people didnt buy a WiiU, so Im okay with not getting games since the poor multi billion dollar company isnt doing quite as well as they had hoped"

Thats just sad...

I wasn't including spinoffs/remakes for any of the series. Assassin's Creed had like 7 of those but I don't consider them true and new AC games, just like the upcoming Tri Force Heroes isn't legit Zelda, and Mario Party 10 isn't legit Mario.

Oh it isnt legit? Well excuse me then...

The fact is that Mario, Zelda and Pokemon are overused franchises at this point. They wont draw in new core or casual gamers with them anymore.

They need to expand.  Instead of remaking every god damn Zelda game, they should invest in new IPs. If not they will only cater to their core fanbase. A fanbase thats shrinking by the day.

Sony must be doomed then with all their remasters (with barely any changes).

Those two Zelda remakes on the 3DS were made by a very small third party studio. What original games were you expecting Grezzo to make instead of remakes?

Wind Waker HD was made in 6 months by the Zelda team...

Sony doesnt need to do much. They have third parties begging them to put their games on the PS4.

Explain how that is spinning.

Skyward Sword

A Link Between Worlds

Phantom Hourglass

Spirit Tracks

Ocarina Of Time 3D

Majoras Mask 3D

Wind Waker HD

Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition

Thats since 2007

We can also spin it the other way around, since there are not just 9 Assassin's Creed since 2007, there are a staggering 14 (15 if you include Syndicate which will come out this year): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassin%27s_Creed

Granted, 4 of these are not for home consoles, but still part of the franchise. So that gives us over 1.5 games per year.

And even that leaves some games out, which are not part of the core of the series, like Assassin's Creed: Multiplayer Rearmed or Assassin's Creed: Pirates for the iOS

I think they make too many. I wish they would do less Wii Party style BS and focus more on Zelda caliber projects. Even if it results in overall less games, there would be more high quality ones, and less fillers.

In retrospect, continuing to develop games like Wii Party and Wii Fit probably seemed like the logical direction after they were so successful on the Wii.  They didn't work this generation and Nintendo responded by restraining their development; we haven't had any of those games in at least a year and I'm unaware of any upcoming titles.

I don't think that Nintendo revitalization is as simple as developing more games or enticing third-party developers.  Nintendo needs to offer a platform with an experience unlike other consoles.  I'd argue that the success of the Wii was dependent on its motion controls; they provided a new facet of gameplay that (at the time) could not be found elsewhere. Nintendo tried to be inventive with the gamepad, but it didn't offer the same type of experience as motion controls.  With motion controls, we can pretend we're holding a baseball bat, swing, and see a response on the screen - with the gampad, we're playing Super Smash in the bathroom.  I actually enjoy the gamepad, but it doesn't have the same wow factor.

Another issue is the waning popularity of Nintendo.  On its own, 10 million sales for Pokemon ORAS seems monumental.  But when we compare it to the 35+ million that Grand Theft Auto V sold across different platforms, it looks a lot less impressive.  It seems like most people don't want Mario anymore... and eventually they won't want Grand Theft Auto or Call of Duty anymore either.  We may even be reaching that time soon with the Minecraft games blossoming.

ORAS are remakes. The originals sold around 16m so that would be 26+ million across different platforms (GBA,3DS). Besides, which other remake broke the 10 million mark?

“Simple minds have always confused great honesty with great rudeness.” - Sherlock Holmes, Elementary (2013).

"Did you guys expected some actual rational fact-based reasoning? ...you should already know I'm all about BS and fraudulence." - FunFan, VGchartz (2016)

Pokemon X/Y sold 13 million.  Grand Theft Auto V sold over 20 million the PS3 and 15 million on the 360.  I'm not saying that Pokemon numbers are terrible, but they're decreasing while numbers for games like Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, and now Minecraft were increasing.  It's a cycle and eventually gamers will find another series.

No offense but one niche Japanese game means nothing.  Yes, they could fix it, but that would require a massive overhaul to eveything - this took Sony an entire generation to 100% nail down.

Since when Dragon Quest is niche????You know that, Dragon quest Heroes alone, a spin off, sold more than 1 million in Asia alone! So again, you are very wrong if you think Dragon quest, a mainline game, is niche. And if sony can do it, nintendo can too.Its hard sure, but not impossible

1 Million in Asia and I am guessing 1.5-2m worldwide?  Hell even Killzone Shadowfall beat that in a year.  Look at Mario Kart's sales.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

[Prediction Made 6/18/2014]

I could list every game Mario has starred in since 2007, but Im afraid Ill get severe finger cramps...

Take a look at the top 20 games of the PS4 on metacritic. Most of them are remasters or cross-gen ports (8 remasters in the top 20 alone).

So why does the PS4 sell well if gamers don't like recycled content?

Because Sony has a much larger fanbase and the PS4 actually has a future.

I thought this was about new IPs and such?

The Wii U is getting a fine amount of content from Nintendo themselves (aside from the typical droughts, which unfortunately occur with every Nintendo console since the N64), it's just most of it is based on previous concepts. I'm fine with the upcoming lineup for the rest of the year and I have many games I plan to buy, and I would by lying if I said I didn't wish Nintendo would invest heavily into new, big budget IPs but that's just not the reality we're living in.

Honestly, the whole situation would be better if Nintendo could coerce third parties into developing for them, as they wouldn't have to rely solely on their own output. But again, it's just not the case right now.
