Forums - Gaming Discussion - Dragon Quest XI: How Much Will Each Version (3DS/PS4) Sell? And Will It Be The Highest Selling DQ Game of All Time?

Honestly, I don't think so. PS4 version will require a slightly larger team, but it's not like the 3DS version will have sub $20 million budget. People forget that it being in HD doesn't make it inherently more expensive, it just means you need larger dev teams in order to accomplish everything in a timely fashion. There are PS1 games with $20-40 million budgets.

Certainly not a landslide.

Larger teams = More money needed, pretty obvious.

Do you really believe the ps4 version is only a little bit more expensive than the 3DS version? Have you seriously think about it?

And? Dragon Quest IX had a huge team working on it and that was on the DS. These projects have big teams with big names. Regardless of its appearance on PS4, it was still going to have a huge budget with a ton of people working on it.

Yeah but isn't it generally thought that since console games typically cost more to produce, that's why they cost more at retail, to offset the cost?

I really don't think it being $60 will have anything to do with if it makes more money or not. If the 3DS version outsells it by 2:1, an extra $20 wouldn't be enough to diminish the lack of units sold. Especially since they wouldn't get all of that in revenue.

I don't think so. Maybe here because those are the set norms for each game or platform. You expect different experience from a portable game.

As we're talking about, I know the PS4 version will be a lot more. It'll likely be 3,000-4,000 yen more expensive in Japan unless the 3DS version is outrageously priced.

Want to bet?

Such an easy win for you. I feel bad.

OT: 3DS > PS4. Sorry for the safe prediction, but still not sure on the localization status of the 3DS or PS4 versions so I'm not posting figures.

3ds version 4-5 mil, ps4 1.5 mil. The 3ds version in just japan, will outsell the ps4 version worldwide.

Pretty this.

I don't know why the people expect a super huge sales for Dragon Quest PS4 in the west... 1 million maximum imo. ( US+EU )

This will push PS4 sales up, up, and B3YOND!

CPU: Ryzen 7950X
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5

I'll just say 3DS > PS4 for now. Any predictions with numbers are useless since there are too many variables at this point.

I think people are expecting far too much from DQ11 in Japan alone. The market has declined from DQ9 and DQ10 wasn't really a big commercial success. The idea that the 3DS version will sell 4 million is pretty laughable. If the DS could barely manage over 4 million, then the 3DS version with competitor will not reach that number.

I know you understand DQ10 is an MMORPG. It is like predicting the success of FFXV with regards to the success of FFXIV.

I agree though 4 million might be too optimistic, but 3 million - 3.5 million isn't out of question.

I bet Japan gets a great looking PS4 this game will be bundled with...

PS4 3.1 million
3DS 5.7 million

NX 300 Thousand

I understand it's a different situation, but the series can still take a hit from a not so popular MMO. Even as popular as FFXI was, the lull lead to pretty underwhelming FF12 sales. There are other factors that go into it, but it's still noteworthy imo.

I also think 3-3.5 million is reasonable. DQ9 is the peak of the series at 4.35 million. Look at Monster Hunter. MH4 sold 3.35 million at the end of 2014 (MC) + we have shipped+digital numbers around 4 million. That's for a series that had a previous  high of 4.9 million on PSP.

You guys do realize retailers take a larger cut from home console games than cheaper handheld games right?
