Forums - Movies & TV - Xena Reboot happening after all, NBC Entertainment chairman confirms (OP Updated)

Gonna be honest here. This is the most exciting tv/movie/game related news I've heard in my life. I'm not just a huge fan of Xena; the show has been a significant part of my life since 1996. I've bought all the dvds, action figures, calendars, trading cards, etc I could find. I even bought the two video games released on ps1 (which was awesome) and ps2 (this one was beyond terrible). Most importantly, whenever I find myself lifting weights or something that requires physical strength, nothing helps as much as thinking about Xena and the battle cry,

That game was awesome. I still remember the fight with the cyclop.

It would be hard for me to see Lucy not play Xena. I was a HUGE fan of both Hercules and Xena during my high school years. I never missed an episode. Every Sunday. I even watched Young Hercules.

Anyway, I think the series could still be good without her. However, I'm really bummed that Kevin Smith won't be playing Ares. His untimely death put a damper on things. Ares helped make both Hercules and Xena great shows. Love his interaction with both characters. Kevin knocked that role out the park. I wonder who would play Ares now.

Doesn't sound like it is going to happen...

Would a modern game look like The Witcher?

Yeah, I think so. Quite frankly I'd sell my entire videogame collection to fund a kickstarter for a xena game, if there ever was one.

Haha. Mee too. I remember reading a review of the game on a magazine (think it was called Gamepro) and they feautured the fight with the Cyclop and I was like "I need this in my life!!!". When I got to play the game it was so surreal.

They  should do it as a Kickstarter project - that is the popular thing to do with nostalgia-favourites.

I think Lucy lawless is legendary. I dont think she can be matched, especially on this age of TV/entertainment where everything has to be dark and gritty.
Xena without the sillyness and the humor just wont be the same. Cancelled within a season i'm sure.

A sequal/continuation with Lucy would rock though.

I wonder if Joxer (Ted Raimi, Sam Raimi's brother) would return. Or maybe Bruce Campbell reprising Autolycus.

Well you guys know already. It's not happening. But Lucy Lawless is Rob's wife and maybe thanks to her enthusiasm, and the interest shown by fans, something will ultimately happen. :(

I watched some of the show when I was kid but I meant to watch the whole thing since it was added to netflix. I haven't gotten around to it but your thread did remind me of it. Thanks for that. haha. Yeah, I would watch the show if they redid it.

No prob. At least something positive.

To be as good as the original Xena you got to take inspiration from the likes of Lagertha (Vikings) or Ygritte (GoT).

Winnick would make for an awesome Xena. She is amazing in Vikings (haven't seen Season 3 yet). She would be great for a more serious and modern Xena. She is even into martia arts. I would like to see her portray that character, I mean, I would like this woman everywhere, even at the front of my cereal boxes. This woman is fire.

Ygritte girl was very nice in her role in Game of Thrones but I am not sure if she is protagonist material.

Knowing how things work, they'll cast some weak thin model as Xena. Do they really expect me to believe that she is a warrior? *cough* Wonder Woman *cough*

That's the "CW approach" to TV Series.

Let me warn you. It hasn't aged very well. Whenever i watch it i find it hard to believe that i used to love this series.

Yeah, I rewatched some videos in YouTube and the random acrobatics by Lucy's doubles and the kicks that send everyone flying can be a little cringe-inducing. But I think I missed some episodes the first time I watched it and I really want to see the series again. Specially now that there is no current expectation of having more Xena for the time being.

I think Sophie Turner(Sansa Stark of GoT) would be a good actress to play Xena. She sometimes reminded me of Lucy Lawless, especially when she hade darker hair. She is also tall enough for the roll.

We may be talking about who would fit a role for a series that is not happening but I still like the idea of entertaining the possibility. lol

I am not sure if Turner could be Xena material. I think she would need to show a stronger side to her. Maybe in the next X-Men we will see her showing more, but so far I see her as a very nervous, concerned and insecure girl.

Those Hercules and Xena shows were campy and fun to watch as a kid but damn if I can't watch more than a minute of them now on netflix.

Perhaps a good reason for a modern remake. :(

Lawless still has the bod to be Xena :^)

She still looks very fine indeed. At least we will see her in the Evil Dead TV Series:

Such a great show. Really wants the reboot rumors to be true.

So did I.

...and what kind of hair should she have - personaly I like short hair.

I think it's time she gets a MoHawk.

Anyway, I've been watching almost every show Lucy has been in and I think she's a pretty good actress and just amazing as Xena (gotta admit she wasn't a very good actress in the first season).

I hope Lucy and Renee are somehow part of the show, even as mentors of the new Xena.

I seriously can't wait!

Oops, false rumors.

I played the PSOne demo like a hundred times but never got around to buy the actual game, don't remember why, I loved the demo.

The series finale has as a really easy way out of the ending. The reason Xena had to stay dead was to attone for all the deaths she caused during the snow storm and the fire, at the villiage. The begining of the new series could easily just say the spirts forgave her. After 15 years of repenting. Then they could use Aphroditie to resurrect her. Since the Greek gods are dead. There's nothinge that will block Ahproditie in doing this. But a cost is her age is set to what it would be at present time. To justify her aging after being a ghost. This would be fine to allow her to be used whenever she could. I'd still want Kevin Sorbo And Mike Hurst to also come back as guests too.

That reminds me of Kratos and God of War. xD

Completely plausible.

If I remember Hercules and Xena correctly, they would sometimes go to the Underworld and Elysium to find/talk to/take someone out from time to time.

Yeah, I was going to post about it but then Firefox crashed on me, a real shame.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:
