Forums - Gaming Discussion - How Sony Won Call of Duty DLC Exclusivity Away From Microsoft

As you might expect, Boyes shied away from discussions specifics about the business terms of the deal, but he did offer some general insight into how the partnership came to be and what it means.

"Well, I think the first thing was we've had a great relationship with Activision around Destiny," Boyes said. "And I'm a huge fan of that."

Sony's partnership with Activision for Destiny has been a deep one, with PlayStation fans getting all manner of Destiny content before Xbox players. Sony has even said that it is treating Destiny like a first-party game in some ways.

Boyes went on to say that Activision invited Boyes and his team on a trip to see Black Ops III in person. It didn't take long for Sony to be convinced that this was a game worth getting involved with.

Watch dogs, Destiny, witcher (in an odd way), batman, GTA V, Farcry 4 all enjoyed the great marketing by Sony. They utilize it properly. Its no wonder they got this one too.

How did Sony won Call of Duty DLC Exclusivity away from Microsoft? Selling a lot more consoles to the audience CoD usually catters to, that's how.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

im glad ms dont have it since i dont play cod and the deal did nothing for me

Sony's marketing department is doing a magnificent job, you can notice that they truly care about games and their success.

Marketing assault this fall will be amazing: Star Wars, CoD, MGS, No Man's Sky, their own games...

To be fair they did go all out on Destiny marketing and making it visible and releasing the white model with it further expanding sales. Sony are a great fucking partner actually.

Thats a very abridged version of it

The 3 biggest 3rd party games this holiday (COD, AC, and Star Wars [both Infinity and Battlefront]) are ALL going to get PS4 saturation bombing advertisement. Couple with unique downloadable games, Until Dawn, Tearaway, and Uncharted Trilogy and you've got yourself one big Fall with all months and demographics covered.

This holiday will be very interesting with MS's typical ad blitz, Halo, Forza (every year so not that big a boost probably), Tomb Raider, and something I think I'm forgetting (didn't they have some other exclusive coming Sep-Dec?) and their huge discounts (already have huge bundles even though we're in the Summer) vs. all that PS4 momentum, third party ads supporting PS4, and possible $50 price cut (at least better bundles than last year)
