Yes TLOU achieved it, but I am not sure if it counts as shooter. It's listed as action-adventure or survival-horror usually.

I think it's primarly a thrid person shooter in the gameplay. Then it's an action-adventure game for everything else xD

According to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_of_Us) it's an action-adventure or survival-horror. However it also was awarded as Best Third Person Shooter from GameTrailers. Let's see if the Topic creator adds it to the OP.

TLOU in less than a week if I recall correctly. Well, there're tons of other shooters that accomplished this "feat".

I just went VGChartz/Game Data Base/Shooters. So TLOU didn't turn up and neither did any other new IP game in different genres that sold a million in 1 month. The only thing I see as an anomaly is Destiny, which is why I went hunting for it. If Borderlands is a shooter then so is Destiny. TLOU isn't a shooter. There are too many segments of the game where you can get through without firing a single shot (or arrow). You melee, shiv, pipe smash, molotov and stealth your way around, which puts is well beyond the shooter genre. There are other games I'll grant you in the action / action/adventure category which could more justifiably be called shooters, but I wonder how many of them did 1 million in a month for the first entry in the franchise.

Much as I'd love to put TLOU in there because I love that game. I don't feel it belongs in the shooter genre.

You have done a mistake...Splatoon->2 days and 3 weeks,not 4 weeks!:P

Edit: Also,it surpassed 1m not sold 1m...http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1069202

That figure includes more than 476,000 physical and digital units sold in the Americas, more than 368,000 sold in Japan, more than 230,000 sold in Europe and an additional 20,000 sold in Australia and New Zealand, that's 1.1m!:P

What's your intention with this thread...?:P

Meh, minor details worthy only of a nitpicker. The milestone is 1 million, no one cares about the following 100K unless they are particularly insecure about this sort of thing.

As to your question. When celebrating the achievement of 1 million in sales it is useful to put it in context. 1 million in sales is so commonplace nowadays that with certain games 1 million is a flop unless it's a first stepping stone to 4 million or more. So I was curious to see the performance of Splatoon vs other games in the broad shooter category when they started out in life. And I thought it was interesting to see that there are just a few shooters over the last 2 generations that began with this level of achievement. This therefore makes Splatoon not just a good sales success "for [damning with faint praise] a Wii U game", it actually makes Splatoon an unconditional sales success.

Yes,my suggestion was a good-nature banter!:P
Oh thanks for the clarification,I hope that you didn't feel that my question was suspect and malicious,If not then I apologize! :P

Unconditional sale success...WOW What can I say?I agree!Where do you see it standing by the end of the year?

Sorry I didn't notice the :P, possibly because I do it ...

Yeah I thought you might have been casting aspersions with that final question so I might have answered a wee bit snarky.

2.5 million by year's end? Wii U does have a limited install base, and it appears Splatoon is mostly preaching to the converted rather than bringing in masses of new buyers (though NPD for June may tell us a different story). So Splatoon can only sell so much before it reaches rather a saturation point. For all that is is a successful new IP in its own right I don't see this first entry pulling MK or SSB level of sale. But then I thought 700K LTD would be a decent result for Splatoon, so what do I know?

Is forbes good enough for you? http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2014/11/05/grand-theft-auto-v-now-a-first-person-shooter/ Please learn gaming and game genres.. ffs.

-_- are you serious, its the first person mode, wich a guy calls first person shooter, its labeled as a action adventure everywhere else, not a shooter, thats why its not here

It's wiki says it's a third person shooter.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto_(series) Then it's listed in the top 30 third person shooters of all time http://www.gameranx.com/features/id/1932/article/3rd-person-shooter-games/ . Even Steam labels it as a shooter http://store.steampowered.com/tag/en/Third-Person%20Shooter/ Maybe you should I don't know actually play the game and learn something instead of making assumptions?

on wikipedia, metacritic, it says its an action game. No where even says its an shooter

To be fair. Shooter is a sub-genre of action. But I still agree that GTA shouldn't be categorized as a shooter. Action-Adventure is more fitting.

Last of Us and GTA being recommemded as shooters?

I may as well recommend the first person portions of Wind Waker HD as a shooter

I would consider TLOU a third person shooter, even though you can beat the game on any difficulty without firing a single shot (except for the part that you play as Ellie). Also, I've always considered GTA a Third Person Shooter. Now it's F/TPS.

4 ≈ One

According to Wikipedia, Halo: Combat Evolved took about five months to crack 1 million copies:

"by April 8, 2002, a little under five months after its release, one million units had been sold".

The later games in the series did this much quicker (Halo 2 had more than 1 million pre-orders) but looking at new IP shooters, Splatoon seems to be one of the strongest launches we've ever had.

So, it's unfair to the exclusive but not unfair to the game whose sale is split on multiple platforms? Or do you think that people only own 1 console?

And source for sold-through?

Sorry but my questions are valid.

Source for Sold-through. It says 販売, when their are refering to shipments they write 入荷.
