Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii U Japan sales 2013 vs 2014 vs 2015

Looks like Wii U will actually be up YoY... great.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Update

Japan is unusual in two ways:

2013 was the best year, globally it was the worst

2014 Kart 8 bump was only mild

Power of tentacle sisters

Predictions for the end of year?

Predictions for the end of year?

2013 was the best year for the Wii U because taxes went up the year after, so many tried to get the consoles to the lower tariffs. Also part of the reason why the PS4 had such an abysmal start in Japan

Since everyone already tried to buy the console in 2013, most potential buyers who where waiting for MK8 already bought the console in advance.

My prediction: Duel through the summer with 2014 - until the Release of Super Mario Maker, where the console should start to close the gap to 2013. Since 2013 had such a strong finish I doubt a bit it can fully catch up, but it will come close. It can get past if SMTxFE and Star Fox Zero will find their audience, but it will be tough.

Splatoon = Bigger than Mario in JP

I hope it does, as the Hyrule warriors push will start to take effect there.

Well, with Mario Maker, it should pass 2014 in any rate, and than battle against 2013 sales

LittleBigPlanet sold absolutely horrendous in Japan. Sure it being Mario Maker it will do better but Japan really doesn't seem into games like that. I wouldn't expect to much from it in Japan.

Why compared LittleBigPlanet with Mario? There are no connection between the two withouth the fact that are both a platform.

Do you know what is the bigger game for Wii U in Japan? Mario Bros U...

They are both platform creation games. In fact LBP is the only game that ressembles Mario Maker. And even if it sells decently i don't think it will be bigger than Smash Bros, so saying that because of Mario Maker Wii-U will sells higher than last year with Smash Bros. doesn't make any sense.

Just because you don't think its going to happen doesn't mean it wont so it does make sense. A lot of you seem to forget that SSB4 was available on the 3DS. Take that as you will.

Smash Bros. Wii U didn't have a bundle in Japan while Super Mario Maker does. And as uran said, the Wii U version was definitely handicapped by the 3DS version in terms of system selling potential.

Sorry, you right, i don't know much about LBP, i thought you compared this with Mario Maker just because it was a platform.

That said, Smash did 220k first week. I don't see Mario Maker sell at this level, but still.

Splatoon has sold in 2 weeks 210k VS 400k of Mario Kart, but who boosted more the Wii U? Splatoon and even by a lot...

Smash is released for 3DS 2 month before Wii U, and 3DS got a bundle, none bundle for Wii U.

Mario Maker will get a bundle, and as for now is doing good on amazon JP... i believe Mario Maker will boost Wii U more than Smash.

Wii U is not having that bad of a year this year.
