Now this is only if its a home console. I'll do a seperate thread for if its a handheld. Anyway lets begin! So we know how the Wii U turned out, a big flop! This is do to a multiple amount of reasons. So with the NX, Nintendo has to avoid these mistakes, as this is really the final chance Nintendo has. Anyway lets begin!
1. MARKET THIS CONSOLE!!!
In the 2 years since the Wii U launched, I haven't seen a single Wii U commercial here in Canada! I've seen dozens of them for the Xbox One and PS4. It proves nintendo hasn't marketed this thing at all, and thus why it failed to capture a large audiance early on.
2. Focus on core gamers!
Casual gaming is dead for consoles, everyone has to accept that. With the NX, Nintendo NEEDS to focus on the core gamer. Make this powerful, and try to lure 3rd parties back to the system. And when I mean powerful, I mean considerably more than the PS4 or XB1.
3. Try to hold out till 2017.
With Microsoft and Sony both doing well in the console space, I don't see a new console launch till 2019. This gives Nintendo a two year headstart. Now why do I say 2017. Mostly because you need to make sure Wii U owners feel they got 5 years out of their console at least, and because hardware will still be too expensive in 2016 to make a console more powerful than the XB1 or PS4, and still be very affordable. So Nintendo should hold out till 2017.
4. Don't make it too expensive!
The Wii U was aiming for a casual audience when it launched, yet started at 299$!!! With the core audience, people will pay more, but not much more. I'd recommend staying at 299$, though if you can make it much more powerful, 399$ won't be bad either. But don't make it underpowered to try to make a profit, focus on trying to break even at launch, and try to sell software and accessories. Profit on the actual unit can come later.
5. Don't try to confuse the consumer.
When I first saw the Wii U launch, I actually thought it was a tablet add-on for the Wii U. This confused people, and I think really turned them off. Make sure to be straight forward with this launch Nintendo. Show off the console, maybe a few things about the controller, but don't show off another stupid tablet!
6. Use PC like hardware.
The days of using strange architecture for consoles is dead. Both the PS4 and XB1 use custom on-shelf parts. Nintendo should follow in Sony's and Microsoft's footsteps, and do this as well. Making simply and easy to program for architecture will entice 3rd parties to hop on again.
7. Offer backwards compatibility with the Wii U.
One of the special things about Nintendo consoles is backwards compatibility. So if someone has a large library of Wii U games, and the NX is backwards compatible, it'll entice them to upgrade to the next gen system. So for this one Nintendo, stick to your tradition.
8. And whatever you do, don't fuck up on any of these things!!!
Seriously, if Nintendo does, their screwed! The market is getting sick and tired of Nintendo, and if they don't get with the game, they'll be a sinking ship with everyone jumping off (yes, including the one and only Reggie)! So Nintendo, just do this right, and everyone will forget what happened before. Do it wrong, and prepare to go bankrupt, or at the very best go the way of Sega. I may not like Nintendo that much anymore, but I don't want them to fall to rock bottom. Please Nintendo, just don't fuck up!
So do you guys agree with this list? I'll add a poll about, and please reply guys! And I'll see you all soon!
