Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony now Calls the PS Vita a “Legacy Platform” Outside of Japan/Asia

At Sony’s 2015 Investor Relations Day, Sony Computer Entertainment’s president and Global CEO, Andrew House, called the PS Vita a “legacy platform.” And for those who are out of the loop, Sony defines a “legacy platform” as a system they no longer work on or will have limited investments from them. For example, the PS3, PS2, PS1, PSP and PSP GO are all “legacy platforms” .

After Freedom Wars failed to meet Sony’s expectations, support as all but dwindled from a first party standpoint. It’s not all doom and gloom though, the PS Vita is doing well enough in Japan, and some of the big games launched their will come to the PS Vita in the west. Its sad that Freedom Wars didnt sold so well, its a really good spin of the "Monster Hunting" genre :/

I think if you'd asked pretty much any of us in the Vita thread, we'd all decided this was the case since late 2013. I'm not really sure why it's such a "news story". Other than Freedom Wars, they've put nothing but younger audience software out since Killzone Mercenary in like September 2013.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Been saying this for a while, but now Sony's confirmed it. Sony really sent this thing out to die. Hopefully, it will get the rumored massive price drop. Wouldn't mind having one for PS Classics and indies on the go.

So I guess you can figure PSTV now being dead as well now.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Hope the rumored price cut is true. I'm sad for the state of handhreld in the West. Back on the DS/PSP days, handheld could flourish alongside the home consoles. Now handhelds keep losing ground against mobile.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

lmao everyone seems to be takeing it well.
Its still getting 3rd party games so...

Now that's the real megaton.

This is the most acknowledgement Sony have given the Vita in years, so that's something!
