Very possible, and who knows maybe we get a pricedrop at E3. I have one question though. You mention dropping the 2ds to 99$, what are manufactoring costs on 2ds? If normal 3ds is around 90$, shouldn't 2ds be at least around 80$ to manufacture, since they're essecially the same machine? I know they cut costs by having just one larger touchscrern and no 3d, but I'd be interested in how large their price margin actually is with that thing.

2DS gives you the sense that it costs 80$ to manufacture? I think it must be between 55$-65$!It's not only the things  that you mentioned which cut costs,it's also the material by which is made...It doesn't have the same quality with the material of the original 3DS!

However, don't focus to price cuts height but just to price cut!:P I may exaggerated!

I was sort of guessing, I just couldn't imagine just the topscreen(+ hinges/cables etc) making that big of a diffrence: :P

Overall material quality is a good point though, so it could be cheaper than I thought.

Anyways I do agree that there should be a more substancial price drop for the older models. I mean look at Apple, they make it work, selling their old Iphone/ipad next to the new one/have several diffrent entry points for their laptops etc. Nintendo should be giving consumers a valid reason to bother with the 'old' 3DS models.

Japan doesn't have the 2DS with the low range budget..

If dropping the 3DS/XL down, it would compete with the 2DS and make it useless?

Imo, I think the prices is fine the way they are,
2DS = Low
3DS/Xl = Mid
n3DS(XL) = high

Yeah but I'm not refering to Japan but worldwide,my suggestion was a 119$ from 169$ 3DS,2DS costs 129$ so it can't be more expensive than 3DS for obvious reasons, therefore 2DS must get to 99$ as I said!:P

Indeed, but that would mean the price difference between a 2DS and a 3DS would be $30 but right now, the difference between the 3DS XL and n3DSXL (at least in Canada) is also $30 ($200 compared to $230)

The difference between the 3DS and 3DS XL is also $30 atm ($170 vs $200) so I feel that the gaps are already pretty good. I don't really see the need for the 3DS to be dropped.

If they cut the prices of the older 3DS consoles, wouldn't that hinder the New 3DS XL in sales?

I have answered to that in advance in the op...

Yep but I don't think so,new 3ds/xl is far better and it has/will have some exclusives, plus that the new ones are mainly targeted to the existing 3DS owner, along with  the new/late  adopters. So big deal!

The price drops would entice the people who care for the price...And these people wouldn't buy the new models anywise, and I suggest the price cut because the price difference between the old models and the new models is small and the huge stock of the old models must be cleared out, being at price near the new models makes that difficult!I imply that the prices drop would lure people that wouldn't buy a 3DS but with these prices they would think of bying a 3DS...

Wanting a  new model  means that you don't care for the price in the first place, ergo if the old model has its price slashed, this doesn't change anything for the people who desire the new models.  Add to that that who will buy the old models because of the lowered prices might get the new ones later when they get a price drop too!:P

I don't agree. If they cut the price of the older models too much it would just hinder the sales of the New 3DS.

Really it's not difficult to find a New 3DS either if you want one, so who cares what the stock mix is like? Like it's not like its preventing anyone from getting a New 3DS.

Besides that I think Nintendo has pretty firmly let it be known that they aren't going to take any more hardware losses, this generation has already has gone about as badly as it could have and I don't think Nintendo is any mood to lose any more money this gen than they have to.

They really cluster fucked everything this gen. Should be 2DS, N3DS, and N3DS XL. They don't sell the regular 3DS anymore and yet act like they do (that's part of why we dont have a N3DS standard in NA). Then we have 2 versions of the XL...

2DS should be $99 (a lot of places sell it at that price nowadays anyway)
N3DS should be $159
N3DS XL should be $199

The 3DS and 3DS XL really need to be discontinued... if not price them at $129 and $169

They should just drop the 3DS and 3DS XL, and lower the 2DS to a very low price.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Well they have dropped the 3DS and 3DS XL ... they can't help it if stores still have large inventory stock left over of the regular 3DS models.

They likely were hoping that they probably could sell out of most/all of their regular 3DS stock in the US over the holidays, but that apparently didn't happen so now they're stuck with a lot of unsold inventory that they don't want to take a big loss on to clear from storeshelves.
