I would say Zelda U has easily attracted a LOT less hate than Skyward Sword or Windwaker. In fact it seems to have gotten just as much backlash as Twilight Princess did for introducing a Wolf Link and ripping off OOT. I mean, is their even anyone really complaining about Zelda U?

Being open world earned it some brownie points, as those are all the rage at the moment. But I guarantee that if it looked like the 2011 tech demo, it would draw a lot more attention from the PS/Xbox crowd, as that's the kind of game they prefer. And appealing to people who don't already own your console it critical to moving hardware.

What shows the game didn't attract those crowds?

Look at the kinds of gamesthat sell well on Xbox One and Playstation 4.
See any toon games?

Kingdom Hearts, Borderlands,  Street Fighter, No Man's Sky (seems to have a lot of attention surrounding it), and Sunset Overdrive off the top of my head.

This is not counting the fanbases of niche games like Persona, Tales Of, and Disgaea.

There are plenty of people this could appeal to.

Nowhere near as many as a darker/realistic style would though.

The top 16 sellers are all realistic in style. If you exclude Minecraft and look for a games that are actually cartoon-like, the highest is Knack at #23.

Top 19 sellers all realistic, Sunset Overdrive is the highest selling cartoon game at #22.

It was a good argument though, KH and Borderlands are widely popular with a toon style.

Don´t you think that maybe the industry is so afraid of taking risks that they just... don´t do that kind of games even if there is a public for them?

Look at the industry few years ago, they didn´t wanted to make any real terror games because that doesn´t sell, and someone could have used the sales of Fatal frame to support that (why not), and then Amnesia came .... and all the industry was wrong

Look at 3D platformers, they don´t do more because nobody wants them right... and then Yokay-Laylee came.

They only do realistic, mature, top notch graphics games because that is what people wants the most... and then the bigger success of the modern videogame market came... Minecraft... and the industry was, again, wrong.

I think a violin would suit the next link. That'd be pretty neat. They kinda missed out on that opportunity with the Wiimote though. Well, anyway, I think it would be absurd not to mention Zelda U at all at this year's E3. There's not many Wii U games to talk about at E3. Not any new ones anyway. I don't think the event would be complete without a mini trailer or at least an Iwata Asks or SOMETHING. Some people literally bought the Wii U just for Zelda...I don't think showing absolutely nothing will do any good.

Those games are a small minority, the vast majority of PS4 and Xbox One's top sellers are realistic in style. And those consoles sell better than the Wii U, which has mostly cartoon games as its top sellers, because the mainstream market doesn't want toon, it wants realism, or at least a stylized approximation of it.

You think COD, GTA, Halo, Gears of War, Uncharted, Bloodborne, etc would sell anywhere near as well if they were toon shaded. Of course not. Zelda is no different.

Well, they've said it as plain as can be that Zelda U won't be shown, so I wouldn't have a reason to think otherwise. I'd be happy if it was all just some big prank, though and they opened (or closed) the show with some amazing new Zelda trailer.

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

You guys should listen to me more often.  I posted this was going to happen in that thread.  I also posted that it'd be released on the NX.  It's going to be delayed and come out on NX first.

And this is why no one listens to you.
