This is your legitimate opinion. But since the prevalent opinion is that it's a masterpiece, you should start considering that your opinion is either wrong or you're simply part of a minority group.

Can opinions be wrong?

I was going to make a thread similar to this later on this week. I haven't finished the game yet, but so far, I agree with you. It's a good game no doubt, but imo, it's nowhere near the 10/10 game of the generation some of the players & reviewers have been hyping it to be.

Let me start by saying the opening is fantastic - one of the best openings I've played. The atmosphere, the sense of danger, the emotion is all there. Graphics is also pretty great.

Gameplay-wise, it's alright, but I do have a few complaints about it mainly the AI and the ordinary infected. The normal infected provide no threat whatsoever; you can just hand-to-hand combat them to death. It takes away a lot of the atmosphere and sense of danger from it. The clickers are the only ones that do provide a threat, but after unlocking a certain upgrade, they don't proved a threat. You can just breeze through certain sections meeleing which also makes it a kind of boring. Better than sneaking around I suppose.

As for the AI, it's kind of dumb at times. In one occasion, a soldier saw me choking one of his buddies, and he runs back and takes cover. This action gave me enough time to sneak into the adjacent room, go around and get behind him, giving me the chance to kill him.

Story & characters are nothing to write home about.

You playing it on Easy or medium? The AI and the infected are a pain in the ass at hard, requires a lot more then a hand to hand combat.
I don't remember if the game had a level above Hard, but i remember my first play-through at the higest difficulties and i felt like having a heart-attack everytime i saw or heard a lot of infected in a area where i was headed, cause i knew i would need to sneak by all of them, and i hate dying after a amazing sneak through, just to do it over again xP

Oh, so now it's Game of the generation? Didn't know that.

With the "remaster" they'll be going for Game of 2 Generations now.

@OP
I have to agree. The story was amazing, but I felt the gameplay to be lacking. I found myslef playing to get to the next cutscene to progress the storyline, which says to me that this should have been a movie or short TV series.
I never felt the horror aspect of the game; instant respawns take away any punishment for dying, so I could just brute force a section if need be. Immersion was hard to maintain during gameplay; companions walking around in the open, while enemies were searching for me, was a common problem.
Scripted sequences threw the basic game rules out the window: the player would be given unlimited ammo, or could only kill a certain way (I tried sniping the sniper, what a waste of ammo), and it took me right out of the game.
The basic game formula was very repetitve: extremely basic puzzle of find the ladder/raft, scavenging area, then shootout/steath kill zone, so it was easy to tell what was coming up, which again took me out of the game. The only time I was really immersed was during the cutscenes.

It was definitely not a bad game, but I place more importance on gameplay, so no amount of excellent storytelling could overcome this for me.

And besides, game of the generation was Wii Sports.

Opinion wars. It usually means:

Supporters will defend it, haters will down play it while both claiming to be fair. xD

I used the Clicker sound (posted on Youtube) to scare my sister while she was studying. Didn't work, she thought it was a dog barking outside.

I have no idea how the Clicker sounded like a dog... lol!

You have to play on grounded mode sir. You will die from the runners. A lot. Prior to playing on grounded, I agreed with u.

Also, the hunters/human enemies are smarter on grounded. Grounded is crazy hard, but I love it. It also doesn't let you use that see through walls cheat sense. I didn't use it a single time anyways, but in this mode u are entirely unable to use it.

I figured AI would be better on higher difficulty, but still no excuse on the AI actually incredibly dumb at times. I'm not really a fan of playing on hard difficulty since some games end up going the cheap route or having stupidly high enemy health. My PS4 died, and I most likely have to start from the beginning again. So who knows? I'll probably try hard this time around.

Anyways, to add something positive, I did like the little things about it. Ellie responding to the environment like the gnomes, records, fireflies, etc, and the light on the PS4 controller reflecting your health. It will be green if your health is full, red if it's low, white if you're listening, etc.

The only reason The Last of Us is thought of as highly as it is, is because it's current. In ten years it won't even crack a top 100 list. It's already dropping on the lists. It's number 50 on metacritic. Hell of a drop for the supposed "best game of all time" after only two years.

I'm already happy, the drop in rank after only two years by itself proves how overrated the game was. Only reason it still has a decent spot is because there are still hordes of gamers citing its praises.

What game do you think has an exceptional setting, plot and characters?

From the top of my head, Red Dead Redemption, MGS1 & 3, Silent Hill 2, Batman Arkham Asylum, Tomb Raider (okay maybe not the story), Persona 3 & 4.

Granted, I haven't finished The Last of Us yet, but so far, I'm not feeling the story & characters (played like six hours). I did like the opening because it reminded me of World War Z, but after that, it kind of went downhill into standard fare.

It picks up and dips.  You never really encounter any new types of enemies and there are a lot of quiet moments but stick with it.  There are going to be times where you can't put the controller down.  It's best to just ignore other people's hype and just let the game happen.  Not a 10/10 IMO but you should definitely enjoy it and not regret the purchase.

I don't really think the drop in rank proves anything other than more great games are being made. Pretty much every game on Metacritic aside from Ocarina of Time and (oddly enough) Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 end up falling at some point, just because games with similar scores are placed on the site.

That being said, I'm not exactly disagreeing with everything you're saying, but this really isn't the best source of evidence to support your opinion.
