Square Enix Has Been 'Tenacious' in Ongoing Conversations About Final Fantasy XIV on Switch



I’ve said this on several occasions, but it hasn’t changed. We would love for as many players to be on FFXIV as possible.

Conversations have been had with Mr. Phil Spencer of Microsoft, and the upper management teams of Nintendo. But I have proposed a condition every time I speak with any platform manufacturers. It’s that the game has to have the capability of cross-platform play.

If we are able to come to some sort of agreement, a handshake so to speak, or if it does end up being that unfortunately we can’t do a handshake with Final Fantasy XIV, either way we’ll make sure to communicate with our players. But we have been tenacious—we’ve been trying to keep at it and be persistent about our conversations.

Honestly speaking, thats a howwible date.I expected it a bit sooner.But I guess it is comming before black friday, so its not that bad.

 

Hopefully it doesnt overshadow XC 2.Yeah, I know Skyrim is an old game, but its an old game that still keeps selling like crazy.

Yeah I feel like it's originally promised Q3 window would've been better.

It will be interesting to see how it sells compared to XB2. Though personally I still expect XB2 to be delayed to early next year, so I don't expect them to clash head on haha.

At this point, I really do want them to delay the game.Not because I dont think they cant get the game done until then(They have insisted on it enough to really be hard for it to be delayed), but that the game could use greatly from the calmer times that a late january/beggining february release can provide and not be suffocated by people rushing in on christmas trying to get a Switch for Mario Oddysey or the other more known franchises.

I am fearing that XC 2 will release around the same time as XCX and do the same mistake of missing Black Friday.And that would not be good for the game, as in it might lose sales due to people already spending their holiday money on Black Friday(the impulse buy guys).But playing Devil Advocate, XCX did sell really well and, if not for the horrible Wii U install base, it would have sold much more than 1 million(I personally think that with digital, XCX is close enough to 1 million to consider that sales as official).So it might not be the end of the world.And as was true with Wii U, the current Switch owners seems to be made from more Hardcore and core gamers than anything else, so XC 2 might benefit from that.

We will see.I personally am hoping for a release date before Black Friday.

Yeah ultimately I think it will get pushed back because Nintendo will want something to pad out the early months of 2018, same reason Tropical Freeze was delayed.

What hurt XCX wasn't launching after Black Friday.  December is a very, very, very big month for sales, there's still a lot of money going around and there's less ad competition.  What killed XCX was that Nintendo suddenly - after years of hyping it in trailers and directs - fimbled the ball and barely promoted it.  It had one ad that aired on two channels for like 2 weeks tops, barely got promoted on YouTube, and they didn't even get the Survival Guide vids out in time.  They didn't even have a launch trailer at the Game Awards kr the theaters during Star Wars.  It was a colossal failure in marketing.

Not only that, but both Xenoblade games to date released (in the West anyway) on systems that were effectively on their deathbed. XB2 will be the first time the series can stretch its legs on a platform in its prime.
