Trimming your presentation to a bare minimum will make "Spotlight" more like E3 2013 and not E3 2014, for example. And that's not a good sign, to be honest.

I'm not even going to discuss about quantity, as in regards to quality, by the looks of it, they are preparing Spotlight to be more like E3 2013 than anything else. And that is what i really would "hate" to see.
I loved the E3 2014 presentation to a point where even I, a advocate of live presentations, wouldn't mind so much not having anymore of those.

Of course, this doesn't 100% confirm it, but makes it the most likely scenario... and that sucks.

What is so bad about E3 2013, arguably Nintendo's best E3 in quite some time? Mario Kart 8, 3D World, Pokemon X/Y, Smash 4, Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3, etc. are most certainly quality games. Well atleast you're no longer saying it'll be a repeat of E3 2015.

It was boring.

Sony a MS were hyping their new consoles and Nintendo was delivering a poor E3 presentation.

Eh, I think the only problem 2013 had was the buffering issues from what I heard. Otherwise, it had Mario 3D World, Xenoblade X, Bayo 2, Pokémon X and Y, DKCTF, ALBW, WWHD, and Smash 4, with a hype Mega Man reveal. I guess you can point out it being somewhat of a drag with Iwata mostly talking like it's a direct with a relatively plain background.

You got it!

I was liked Iwata's style, but for E3 they should have done way better than having Iwata talking in a "plain background".

E3 2014 was way, way better in terms of presentation. Way better!

Ah I see where you're coming from now. Though in the grand scheme of things, how they present the information doesn't matter much, what's most important is the information itself. I think we can all agree that no amount of Robot Chicken would have saved E3 2015 for instance.

I know that what matters are the games, but in this case i would say two things:
E3 is about excitement. And if they only show a collection of trailers, then there's no excitement.
How you present your products makes ALL the difference - any Marketing specialist will tell you that much.

And this actually ties in with the first point:
If this ends up being 30 minutes of games you already know plus one or two surprises (the Rabbids surprise is no more, so make that one) will you really enjoy it that much? Wouldn't have been better if they added odd/funny moments?

I sincerely hope this is more than Koizumi/Reggie showing a trailer, talking a bit and repeat, repeat, repeat.

Yes E3 is about excitement... for the games! Thus trailers do generate excitement, I mean games are kinda the whole reason E3 exist, and most people don't even watch the presentations but the trailers afterwards. You honestly believe none of the 20+ million people who watched the Mario Odyssey trailer are excited for it? BotW n MK8D and the Switch in general had no silly skits or pupperty, yet they're selling uber well.

Ha, I'd like to see those marketing specialist try to get the masses excited for turds like Mario Tennis and Amiibo Festival. Odd/funny moments are filler/time wasters, the games are why we're watching, well except for you apparently lel. Less filler is always better regardless of how good the overall show is. If it's a bad show then atleast it's over with faster. This is the main reason why Nintendo's digital presentation format is superior, less fluff, more substance!

Yes, the games are what people want to see. But when studios put in a lot of resources for their E3 presentations that alone should tell you something: marketing sells stuff.
It doesn't really matter what you are me want/like. Companies are always going to use marketing to their advantage so they can attract more people who didn't even they wanted it, in the first place.

Part of those viewers are already buyers or future buyers even if Nintendo skipped E3 and didn't share anything Mario related until launch. The rest of the market is what needs a push to buy a Switch.

Marketing can't save a meh product from being a meh product. But boy, can it help sell!

Just remember how PS4 was announced.
Was there a game that made it a must buy (also far superior in sales when compared to XB1)? No.
It was great markting (also took advantage of MS' mistakes) that sold the console so well.

Nintendo seem allergic to giving players what they want. Mainline Pokemon on Switch, that's all people want. Instead they'll keeping milking the 3DS's shrivelled old tits and give Switch an old port of a spinoff game instead. Just when you think they're back on track they drop a reminder of how out of touch they can be.

So it's only considered marketing when they add useless filler to their presentations?

Your speculation doesn't answer my question. Btw Sony and Microsofts presentations are also just people talking in front of a screen and trailer reels, so I don't see what's so much more exciting there, and neither do the masses of course as again most don't even watch E3 conferences.

I'll just take it you agree that no presentation format could have saved E3 2015 from being bad.

Uh yes obviously if people were buying the system. That's just your opinion that it didn't have worthwhile games, an opinion the masses clearly disagreed with.

I don't understand how you can call "useless filler" to the extras they have on their presentations.
Some parts are funnier than others, yes, but they have a purpose: entertain and keep things from being dull (E3 2013 style!).

Having conferences instead of a bunch of trailers released online is the same difference between listening to a CD at home and on a music hall: it just WAY better!
Big live conferences have people cheering, laughing, applauding; it's more exciting than just sitting alone and watching the trailer.
Also, ever noticed how the scripts are written? It's filled with carefully picked words and whatnot. That's marketing, too.
Everything about a live conference is to make things bigger, better. And that's way studios spend a lot of money on them instead of throwing trailers to youtube.

My problem with E3 2015 is related to the lack of announcements for Wii U.
I kinda enjoyed the puppet show. E3 2014 was a lot better, though!

I don't think it's just my opinion.
If you take a look at SW sales for PS4, you'll that the first exclusive announced at the reveal conference sits at... try to guess it... 40th place: Killzone SF.
I'm obviously excluding 3rd parties as they were also released for XB1.

Saw this at GoNintendo:

(quoted from Pokken press release) "On Tuesday, June 13, the show starts right after the Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 presentation about 9:30 a.m. PT."

If the presentation really lasts around 30 minutes, this will be Nintendo's shortest E3 presentation - at least from what i can remember.

I don't know about you, but 30 minutes seems short to me.

If they cut the filler with the developer stories they've done in the past, they could potentially cover the same amount of info they did in like 2014. They said this E3 is about 2017, so it might not have to many announcements.

Which E3 presentation you liked the most - talking about the whole package? E3 2013 or E3 2014?
Because what you seem to be ok with is them going the E3 2013 route.
Personally, i don't think it will be good for Nintendo. But that's just me.

In terms of game announcements, Nintendo has, imo, made it clear that there won't be many announcements. Otherwise the focus wouldn't be on 2017.

Sadly, with the recent news, it seems that things would be as i feared.
