Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Splatoon NA Commercial

Nintendo must take a look at their advertisement department. They really suck at this. The spot is boring and lifeless. The narrator sucks a lot. They make a fun, chaotic game like Splatoon looks boring. Yeah, the spot has gameplay, but very bad chosen.

You can do better than that, Nintendo. I love your games but advertisement is more important than you think. Look and learn from Sony, they usually nail their commercials.

I agree. The Hunt You Down trailer for Bloodborne was amazing.

I actually know some people who buy the game after watching that trailer on TV. It's very, very good.

EDIT: Jesus, I want to play that game so bad lol

Yeah, I'm a massive fan of the Souls series, so I think it would be my cup of tea. But the PS4 exclusive lineup is too weak in my opinion (except Bloodborne) and I play third party games in PC, so... When Sony builds a decent exclusive lineup I'm in. Until then, keep dying for me :P. Well, this is a discussion for another thread, I promise I won't go off-topic anymore ;)

How did I know it would have a lame trying-to-sound-young-and-cool-at-the-same-time voiceover? I really must be psychic.

Currently playing:

Bloodbath Paddy Wagon Ultra 9

don't like it plus the guys voice is crap!

cancels pre-order!

See when I thought of Splatoon ads I thought of this:

Crazy and zany advertising such as this:

And the result of such a gif gave me this:

But this advert we're seeing just gave me this:

it's got almost the same pov camera angle save for a few moments, it looks sluggish in most areas and doesn't really show off what we saw in game previews prior and certainly makes no attempt to show off the campaign at all.

It's barely passable in my eyes due to the cringe worth narrator who once again just bats home the image that Nintendo is completely all for kids when it's really not and this is causing a lost in translation situation, see this game can be played by all age groups and it looks insanely fun, vibrant and full of colour with an interesting new concept to the shooter genre, the only part NoA has fucked up was the advertisement, the one important part to selling your game and really getting it out there is having a home run of an ad, one that really makes people remember and really want to buy your game.

I'll throw in an example that grabbed me when MKX came out:

When I saw this brief snippet before the rest of the ad kicked in I felt a sense of both tension and excitement because once again we got to see Scorpion and Sub Zero duke it out like old times and the rivalry between the two was known by the fans of the series but also to newcomers due to the way the advert portrayed them, it made it simple and straight to the point, that these two hate each other's guts and want to fight about it and then of course they do it and with style.

This advert has hardly any style, it;s clips merged together with simmilair camera angles and a thrown in cringe worthy narrator, they didn't even need the guy in there at all.

The first Splatoon trailer I saw from 10 months ago didn't even use a narrator and it used multiple camera angles and also showed off the games mechanics, this was before the campaign trailer but still this trailer alone grabbed me 10 months ago and it still does right now, the NoA trailer however does not have me at all, all it's going to roughly grab is maybe a few kids who aren't put down by the cringeworthy feeling the narrator gives off, yes sven kids can get put off from that.

I am by no means a pro or expert at marketing, I took e-business instead which was interesting at the time but besides that it doesn't take some genius to figure out how to make a good ad let alone notice a fault with one, NoA really needs to get a new ad up to replace this one near release, relying on this single ad won't net you many takers. I really want Nintendo to do well but they really need to sort out their marketing tactics.

I really hope the UK gets a non narrated advert at the very least.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Thats a surprisingly in depth way of looking at the trailer. Nice work lol
