The hard truth is that piracy is still a very big problem. GTA V is hacked already as far as I know. That's terrible. That is the main reason why some devs skip PC paltform or release games later.

GTAV sold 1 million in one day on PC

And didn't Halo get hacked and leaked last gen, before it even officially launched?

That and Gears of War 3 both did as well as others.

Nah, doesn't come close to competing with the past 10 years of PC is dead cherry picking, while the vast majority of sites (including VGchartz) ignore digital sales (because they can't track them...so they don't exist).

+1.  Everyone for the longest time has acted like PC gaming is a Niche just because they don't do it.  Nvidia and AMD have been shipping dozens of millions of GPU's every year, and they aren't being used to browse the web.

A lot of them are being used to browse the web. You need a GPU in your PC. These days it's often integrated into the CPU, but you still need a GPU. And seperate low-end GPUs don't seem to be going anywhere. That said, PC gaming isn't that small, just thought to fix a slight error you seemed to have there. (Hopefully I didn't unfix it!)

I was talking about gaming GPU's.  Obvious stuff is obvious.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

[Prediction Made 6/18/2014]

I wonder if we'll ever get to a point where we can stop pretending that consoles never suffer from piracy.  Yes, there are differences...but piracy is piracy.

My hope is that eventually, PC and Console gamers can actually become one group...of gamers.  And we can actually force policy, through focused effort by all.  It's still a long ways away though, lots of console gamers still hate on PC, and lots of PC gamers still hate on console (I know people who do both, sadly).

Yeah the MOBA, f2p, social and Facebook industry is booming. Looking at the financial statements AAA publishers still only get ~15% of their total sales from PC. I'm sure they are doing fine on PC but the huge growth comes from those casual games, not console ports.

This is why all figures for PC games are useless on this site; digital has such a huge impact on the market and we don't track digital releases.

Indeed.  This industry really really needs more transparency with regards to the digital marketplace.

Indeed, and it's something that's always irked me. I can understand someone preferring one over the other (i'm one of those people), but anyone using that preference as a basis to write off the merits of the other is just being silly.

We have no solid idea what the games industry will look like in 10, 20, or 30 years, but right now both 'factions' play an important role in keeping the industry interesting and competitive. That extends to the brands within those two sides too.

Not just that, but as a collective, console+PC gamers would be a force to be reckoned with, for any publisher.  A concerted effort to boycott timed exclusive, or microtransaction etc (Or even just speak out against it as a collective).... or whatever the concern is, if it were addressed by the collective...yeah, it'd be much, much easier to steer the industry in the direction that we desire, if we could function that way.

Comparing the PC market to just the digital console market? Cherry picking at its finest.

Agreed. And besides... which is the biggest IP on the planet right now? COD? Which system does it sell more on? Consoles? Ok then.

Also... wtf is up with using the plural version of the word "game" in the UK? It's not the GAMES industry. It's the GAME industry. Hell, when one types in "gaming industry" on google, it sends you to a wikipedia page that SAYS "game industry".

So petty, but SOOOOO aggravating lol
