Sony Computer Entertainment has today announced a new model for their PlayStation 4 video game console, officially dubbed the "Slimline" by Sony. We were also able to interview a spokesperson for SCE about this new SKU.

As the name suggests, this is a more compact version of the console compared to the launch varient. Pictures are not yet available, as the design is still being tweaked and finalized. However, SCE has done far more than just make the box smaller. Sony promises "A huge number" of new features will be available at the Slimline's launch, as well as years into the future. One such design philosophy seems to go the completely opposite direction of its competition.

"We are very proud of our offline technology here at PlayStation" said a Sony spokesperson, "We worked very hard to make the PS4 able to function without an internet connection, this is an incredible technology that our competitiors were unable to match for quite some time. Even certain city-simulation PC games simply didn't have the ability to function without connecting to a central server. So you can see why we are very proud of this next-gen technology."

The first major new feature of the PS4 Slimline will be a new option that will be available for Sony's game streaming service, called PlayStation Now

"As I said earlier, we are very proud of our offline technology. The PlayStation Network is truly second-to-none in its ability to go offline. Unfortunately, many of our valued customers find this as 'annoying' or 'a rip-off' when they're trying to play games on PlayStation Now. This is why we're introducing a new option for the service, called PlayStation Here&Now."

PlayStation Now works by having games stored in offsite servers. These servers then render the game and send the image to your TV over the internet. PlayStation Here&Now works differently. Instead of storing the game on servers, the game is stored on the console's Hard Drive. The console then uses onboard hardware to render the game, and send it to your TV. This option allows you to play games without a disc or persistent internet connection.

The PS4 Slimline will also offer support for new media features. For example, The Slimline model will introduce HD-DVD movie support. "We enjoy competition with other companies, it keeps us on our toes and gives our customers the best products possible," Said the spokesman. "But sometimes, we just have to stop and be friends for once. That's why we're letting Toshiba bring their flourishing HD-DVD platform exclusively to the PlayStation 4 Slimline. Our valued customers will no longer have to face a difficult choice between the two HD movie disc platforms."

The spokesman also told us that we'll be learning of many new features leading up to the Slimline's launch. "We'll announce more features in the coming weeks, and some more for you to find out when the console launches. Please be excited!"

The excitement after this announcement was truly incredible. Everyone wants to know when they can get their hands on this device. But no release date has been given yet. Sony will be launching a Kickstarter Campaign specifically for the new SKU in a few days.

"Many of our fans are aware of Sony's... um... sub-par financial status. And we know that many PlayStation gamers have thanked us a lot for the entertainment we've provided for them. Now is the time we ask a little bit from them, so we can bring them yet more games and fun!"

We then ended our interview with the spokesman "It was a pleasure to speak with you, sir. I look forward to reading your article, and don't forget to check your calender. Take Care!"

We were able to find more information later in the conference. Sony is also learning from other competitors and trying out their tactics. For instance, the new PS4 will not come with a power cable, as this is just an optional accessory. Also, The PS4 Slimline will offer Vita Memory Card support, since many Vita owners can fit their entire library on one card, the rest of the open space can be used to boost the PS4's storage space.

So there you have it folks, the PlayStation 4 Slimline is coming! Are you excited? Will you be getting one at launch? How much will you contribute to the Kickstarter? Let us know, and thanks for reading!

No link, I just wrote it myself.

I still think April Fool's is funny! (I wouldn't have done this if I didn't think so!). I think the best April Fool's jokes are ones that seem legit on the surface.
