The other day I made a thread about how disappointing the technical problems on the physical version are.
That being said (and that being present), now I want to talk about how awesome this game is. Sure, I'm extremely biased when it comes to Resident Evil and I don't mind admitting it (I mean, what's not to love with this franchise?!), but oh boy, I did love this game.
(** I own the physical copy, which brings some goodies not present on the Season Pass or the digital chapters bought individually.)
-> It has a decent lenght (somewhere along 6 to 10 hours) but with a lot of replay value, especially when it brings extra modes like Invisible Enemy to put your skills to test.
-> The gunplay is very good, and you have a great variety of weapons to choose.
-> The "partnert swapping", while annoying at first, becomes an enjoyable affair after a while. That being said I spent most of the time as the "side partner" due to their perk of finding hidden items; something you must absolutely need if you start the game on the highest difficulty available as I did.
-> There's enough variety so that repetitiveness doesn't kick in. Aside from a very rough stealth system (which doesn't work that well at times), you get to shoot, solve puzzles, rush against the clock and deal with pesky situations in a very RE fashion.
-> Splitscreen co-op, for both the main game, the extra episodes and the Raid Mode. Sure, "side partner" isn't as exciting as Claire/Barry, but hey. This is a perfect game for cooperating with someone who isn't very good at TPS or at games in general, as they can't die and are on support duty.
-> RAID MODE! I mean, this is one of the best things ever conceived. It gives almost unlimited value to the game, and this is an extra mode I'd like to see applied to almost every TPS game out there. Diverse, tons of unlockables and crazy weapons combination, tons of characters with different skills and traits and enjoyable missions (they are a bit repetitive unlike the campaign, though) featuring every single monster from all Resident Evil games. On a side note, so far this new Raid Mode has been far easier than REvelations1 Raid Mode counterpart, (there are some really game-breaking skills, like Hunk's) although I haven't started the "HARD" gauntlets yet.
-> The fanservice thrown at the player. I can understand some people seeing this as "self-referencial crap from a franchise that is a shadow of its former self", but I loved every fanservice moment, even the cringeworthy ones. Especially when the characters are also self-referencial, as there's one moment on which Claire says "I was almost a Claire sandwich!" and Moira - Barry Burton's daughter - becomes very surprised and exclaim: "Does Barry tell everyone that story?! Ugh!"
On a less positive note, the graphics and some gameplay edges are very rough, but that's what happen when you do a game with not much money. Claire, for example, doesn't look much like her, although she's older (still a very noticeable difference). There's some muddy, extremely-low textures here and there, but hey. Also, the technical flaws I already mentioned back then, although they're not present on the eight generation consoles I think.
So, did you purchase Revelations 2? A shame that it didn't release on WiiU, by the way.
