Looks very nice... if a little slow.

Not sure why they are banging on about 1984. Its a village... that kind of village in England is timeless, I know plenty of villages like that, they looked like that in 1980, 1990 and they look like that now.

Anyhow, looks really nice mostly... lets see how it plays.

What he said. Except for the village part, since I have no idea about that.

One word: Morpheus.

Basically, he's saying there are many such villages that appear 'stuck in an age long since past'.  Some of these do it naturally, others are actually by law, required to look a certain way.  A town near where I live, Stowe Vermont, requires all commercial businesses to look 'old timey' if you will (Not sure how far it extends though).  There was a big to-do with McDonalds awhile ago, because in order for McD's to open a franchise there, they'd have to (and did) redesign the exterior to fit in the with towns overall aesthetic.

As a keen walker, I can tell you that regardless of how old the buildings are, there are always signs of modernity everywhere. What this game is setting out to do is remove those signs and place you in a specific time.

I would think the first sign of Modernity is the Giant yellow arches :D

Didn't say they were all historical landmarks, but in Stowe's case, they require you to give it somewhat of an apperance of age/fit in with the architectural design of the surrounding buildings/businesses.

LOL. Naaa, the villages I walk through (and the one I lived in for a while) don't have things like McDonalds. They have subtle indications like Sky satalite dishes or double glazing.

They sure have been taking their time on this game. Wasn't it announced 2 E3's ago? Looks pretty graphically. Gameplay wise it reminds me of Gone Home, except with more content since you have a whole village to explore instead of a single house.

Have you ever watched a playthrough of Dear Esther? It's not everyone's cup of tea. Fantastic writing:

Yeah, the only places like that in Vermont are probably the Shelburne Museum, which is entirely old structures...but it's for preservation, so there's a reason for that.  I would imagine much of the US doesn't have such locales, for the obvious reason that the US simply isn't that old.  Definitely something I enjoyed when I visited Europe, way back when, though.
