Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One distributor reports losses as sales fail to pick up in China

Yeah... I remember people claiming about how the country with the largest population in the world could also become the largest gaming market in the world. Population don't means shit when the government sucks. I am still interested in seeing how PS4 does there, but I don't see either lasting very long.

See what many don't know is Nintendo dealt with the Chinese government a while back when they launched a cheap budget console over there. I'm guessing it was mainly to see how the gov. would respond. Judging from their lack of enthusiasm with launching stuff in China now, I'm guessing it went about as well as it is going for MS with the Xbox One :P

Knowing this info, Sony will probably just throw a million or so PS4's their way, tell them to go crazy, and then get back to focusing on the rest of the world.

They are the biggest gaming market in terms of PC and second largest in terms of online gaming and massive in regards to mobile gaming.

Console market is irrelevant tbh.

Nintendo should do just fine there. No violence or M rated games is right up their alley.

They could still become the largest console market in the world. Those expecting it to happen immediately however were very wrong.

Not going to happen.

Because it isn't a good console. It's a lesser version of a PS4 for nearly the same price, so why would they buy it? Especially considering the fact that China likes PC gaming more than consoles(duh)

It does have its own games and the ways in which its lessor (resolution), really isn't that massive a deal. If you think X1 is bad you must think PS4 is bad too, considering they're like 80% identical.

A $2m loss is tiny.

I don't know what to take from this.

$2.7m doesn't seem like a huge loss for an initial launch, but should they be making a loss at all? How does the distribution work, they buy from MS then sell to retailers? So they've bought a lot of stock they can't shift?

Iwata is a smart person.

Hopefully China can see how well games in nature falling under their ban list can generate profit and interest to make the industry that are dwelling deeper into. Hopefully, these issues will resolve themselves and the ban list China has is lifted.
