To play PC games with the Xbox Controller is terrible unless the game has controller support. But the Steam Controller is for games that do not have controller support

Neh... If you are talking about games like RTS, I am pretty sure I would pick my keyboard and mouse over a controller even with the steam controller.

If you are trying to say that playing PC games without controller support with a normal controller is anything above playable I do not know what to tell you. I have tried to play tons of games with a controller and very few were anything above playable. The Steam Controller should allow you to play RTS games on your tv, if you watch the videos on it, it looks effortless. It will fall short of a keyboard and mouse for sure but all I am looking for is a better option than what we have now (which is terrible)

Last year's GDC 2014 view of the gamepad (last image).

Supposedly they have added an analog stick to the controller which would be a big plus over that terrible d-pad

Can you link some pics?

This is the rumored final product. Supposedly the final one is going to be at GDC next week.

I'd find it hard to use that as I'm so used to the dualshock.  I'd imagine xbox gamers would take to it like ducks to water.  Seems a pretty solid design overall.

Not particularly.

I personally can barely feel a difference in the dualshocks and xbox controllers. The only thing I notice on the Xbox One controller is how small the analog sticks are. I put 3rd party pads on them when I play my GF's brother's XBOne

I agree about the design, I think it is going to be fine

Well... I am not saying that at all... I am saying that games that don't have controller support like RTS games are designed with a mouse and keyboard for a reason and if you are going to play with a controller, you will be at a disadvantage. I agree that the steam controller will probably be better than a normal controller when it comes to games like RTS but it will still be no where close to the advantage that people will get if they use a keyboard/mouse, specially if you are using hotkeys and shortcuts as well as many other things which people do. If you are playing an RTS like sc2 which relies on heavy Micro + Macro and you use a controller, you are certainly going to lose whether it be an xbox controller or a steam controller.

Now, with that being said, if you think that the steam controller is great for ur sitution, great, I got no issues with that but for me, I will stick with an xbox controller because I don't need to play with a controller for RTS games or games that aren't ment to be played with a controller

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Okay I'll pitch n as an RTS fan, I've played them for years and it;s my most favourite genre of them all.

I have played my fair share of RTS games on consoles and PC but PC is currently my main source since consoles don't have enarly as many as PC does. The most recent RTS I played on consoles was C&C Red Alert 3 and C&C 3/Kanes Wrath, all 3 of those games as far as I know use the "command wheel" system since the games make use of the gamepad and the gamepad only, at the time it was somewhat good but as time went on the command wheel and commanding/grouping your units and selecting them started to feel quite tedious, until I went back to playing them on PC I found I was a lot more accurate and quicker in my actions with the K+M.

The thing is the gamepad can definitely more or less do a few RTS games and I;d imagine the Steam gamepad doing the same but at the end of the day it won't be superior to the M+K setup, RTS games were designed with those in mind from the start and they will for the time being, they are just more accurate than a gamepad.

I'd want to game on the couch with the gamepad like I do with my 360pad hooked up to my PC but I only use that for games that play better with the gamepad, I don't try forcing it on every other game that might support it.

I could assure you though that if you wanted to play off against someone in an RTS with a gamepad vs K+M, the latter would win with response time and accuracy.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Most people do not care about being ultra competive in strategy games, technically no PC game without controller support is meant to be played with a controller though..... I do not think anybody is making the arguement that the Steam Controller will perform on par with a keyboard and mouse but the majority of the people interested in a Steam Controller do not care.

Yeah if I started gaming on pc a lot again id get used to it in no time.  This should be a nice money maker for valve.

Not a PC gamer but I'm excited to see what they do with the controller. I definitely feel like there is room to be made in terms of more accurate accurate and deep input everyone else is being a bit complacent (even Nintendo)
