Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Zelda Sales Thread: Franchise at 86.67 million sold

Who would want a Zelda game that gives us lore on Fierce Deity?

Hell yes, Fierce Deity is awesome! 5 62.50%

No way, Fierce Deity is lame! 1 12.50%

Sean Bean made me cry in Lord of the Rings 2 25.00%

Total:8

Only one game that was titled 'Legend of Zelda' did not break 1m. This was indeed Four Swords Adventures on GameCube. VGC misses numbers on that game though, so maybe even that did.

I'd say though that any Zelda will beat at least 1m by default, it isn't that high a number. Even for this lowest of the low FSA sequel-ish game.

Around the Network

With Twilight Princess HD, Triforce Heroes, Hyrule Warriors Legends, and Zelda U (NX), the franchise climbs ever closer to the 100 million mark.

These new and upcoming releases are also being sold alongside OOT3D,MM3D,ALBW,WWHD, and the Wii version of Twilight Princess is still on the market.

Yup. Even if the HD remaster is looking a little underwhelming for some, I think TPHD release will trigger a final push for Wii-only owners interested in the series to buy/replay TP Wii and hopefully get them interested in Zelda for the NX.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

This obviously does not include digital sales.

Do you think the series can hit 100 million early into the next generation of consoles?

Do you think the mainline series will ever hit 100 million?

You are forgetting the CD-i games XD.

It's really weird the series hasn't reached the 100m milestone, specially when Mario Kart, Pokemon and the Wii series reached it before Zelda.

Mario Kart is now almost a casual title so it has a much broader appeal commercially. The Wii series is casual personified. Pokemon is a handheld franchise and thus, has a MUCH higher install base to work with and shouldn't really be compared.

Overall though, Zelda, for as awesome as it has been, isn't casual enough to attract massive sales. I'm happy about that too because the moment they make Zelda for our mothers, we're all fucked.
